Re: Review of My New 100mW O-Like Green ‘Cute’ Laser

Did you get her contact from this forum? Sort of confused there on how you knew who to contact? Anyways...

I'm wondering if the 100mW and the 150mW are actually the same.
1. the quantity "In Stock" is the same, they were both 20 yesterday, and both are 19 right now.
2. the 150mW claims between 125-150mW. You originally said it was 110mW minimum in the review but now you say 120, either way that is beyond the 100mW and into the 150mW power range. So it is either well overspec or they sent you and lower end spec 150mW. Or in reality they are actually the same, but one cost $30 more.

Yes I got her contact info from the forum somewhere.
You can contact her through the forum by messaging Standtone11, through the 'Contact Us' page on the O-like website, though Windows Live Messenger by mesaging o-like@live.cn, through email by messaging o-like@live.cn, or through Skype by messaging o-like.

1. Honestly, I don't know how it works. I guess they get several laser diodes at different powers, measure their power, and put them into the 50mW, 85-100mW, and 125-150mW categories. The ones that are below 50mW are not sold.

2. What I meant in the review was that she said she would give me one at around 110mW instead of 85-100mW, but the one I got was rated at 120mW (Above the 85-100mW range but below the 125-150mW range. Yes they might be the same thing, but some are more powerful than others; like I said before. She wouldn't send a laser under the stated power.

What I have been meaning to do lately is to take apart an O-Like and see if they possibly pot mod some of them down to fit them into the lower categories.

It would sound strange in one sense, but not in another. Assume that their source actually supplied too many lasers capable of higher power than 50mW. Well, to get some into the cheaper price range of those wanting them, I suppose it just might make sense to turn them down.

I really don't know how it works. If they are actually getting them, aligning crystals, then adjusting power etc, or just binning what they get based on output.

I planned on taking one of their 50mW Silver Chromes apart, but every one I have ordered lately ended up being sold to someone I know locally that day. What I thought was strange was that every 50mW Silver Chrome I ordered was right at 60mW, almost like they were set there. It makes me believe that you might just be able to get one and make it do 100mW+ with a pot adjustment. I have more ordered and on the way, and will find out soon.

About quality, if you read my latest review, the Rayfoss uses cheap modules with plastic lens assembly, O-Like is brass, and the Rayfoss did not have TEM00, where O-Like did.

i believe that both of these lasers are currently waiting at the post office for me:
1 x New cute pocket Green laser 150mW /adjustable (OLCGL150)
1 x New Gatlin Green laser 100mW/waterproof/adjustable (OLGA-100)

so we shall see if they actually do have trim pots or not,
additionally, would there be any kind of markings that would be an indicator of just what the driver and/or diode can endure before catastrophic failure?
the first laser I purchased from O-Like :
1 x 200mW blu-ray torch/adjustable/focusable (OL-405-200-T)
has a trim pot, but I haven't been bold enough yet to go fiddling around with it.
I'm reasonable certain that I'll need to work with the lens of the 405nM laser.
not happy with it at this time.
But that's what tinkering is all about.
Just wish college wasn't so long ago...
I can't remember formulas to save my life!
Feels like my brain is turning into cottage cheese!

I was pretty sure that they just get huge batches of pre-made green modules, test their output power, and place them into hosts, and label them accordingly.
I don't think o-like is doing any pot-modding (down or up), because they get a variety of outputs from the same batch of green modules.
And, if you take a look at some of the green modules, you will often times see a small mark (optimum driver:eek:utput ratio) on the pot that is made during building.

just picked up my 2 new lasers not 20 minutes ago...
I AM SUPER IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF BOTH OF THESE LASERS!!
the "CUTE" 150mW is exactly what I think a hand held Laser should feel like.
solid, high quality, love the focus ring... big thumbs up for this one!
the Gatlin is huge but I love it! it looks like it should be snapped into some kind of yoke fitting labeled "PRIMARY WEAPONS CONTROL MODULE"
but I will start my own review thread to keep from hijacking yours any further.

wow that sucks, your total review just changed from it's great to DON'T BUY. I just bought the 150mW version. No offense but hopefully it was just yours and not the whole series, then again mine should be a different diode and everything anyways. Have you contacted them yet to see if they will replace it? If they do, then oh well, sucks but it just happened to me with a very expensive and nice gun sight i got from Viridian Laser and i called them up, sent me a UPS return label via email and i sent it off. They are a great company but sometimes bad things pass through. Hopefully that is the case here.

I do hope it was just the single unit, and you get one that works. I'll try to contact them and see if they can replace it, but I would not want to go through the trouble if shipping to china is overpriced.

At first I thought it might have been the battery, since the battery's protection circuit kills it once the battery goes below a certain voltage, but it has been recharged completely, and I have tried another different battery.

caution,
the "Cute" laser seems to have a hidden feature that was not advertised.
after draining the battery completely trying to focus the beam to a fine point,
I realized that the lens had actually shaken loose and un-threaded itself and before i could get inside to try to fix it,
turned 90 degrees so you could see brass threads through the aperture.
my fault entirely not O-Like's issue.
well I couldn't figure out how to get the forward section apart,
it does have a trim pot on the pc board for those that were asking.
this implies that the lasers are all using the same diode and you can crank her up to much higher out put.
the diode/driver assembly seems to be pressed into the focus section of the host,
so not sure exactly I'm going to thread the lens back into position.
but there is a bigger issue at the moment...

This laser seems to be equipped with a cloaking device!
having set all 4 of my lasers on the arm of my couch in a nice orderly line according to relative size
I pick up my camera to take a picture to post in the forum...
batteries were dead... ok, popped them in the charger; I'll take the picture in the morning...
the following morning, the 150mW "Cute" laser has vanished with out a trace!
it's not on the floor, between cushions, not under anything, searched the entire room it's just gone.
so there are several possibilities:
1) I have activated a hidden cloaking device that not only renders it invisable to the naked eye it allows solids to pass right through the space it is occupying.
2) A random Einstein/Rosenberg bridging worm hole opened where the laser was placed and the laser has now been transported
to a different point in the time/space continuum. Possibly the same place socks go to when you loose them in the laundry.
3) someone has been in my apartment, ignored the rest of my stuff including cash, laptop computer, small fortune in paintball gear,
3 other lasers that were sitting in the same location;
and only took the one laser that is presently in need of a new battery and a minor repair...

and I really really liked that laser too.....

I'm hoping that I'm still living here when the worm hole returns the laser to the reality that I currently occupy.
I have no past memory of this laser so it must have gone forward in time or moved to a new location in space. or both.
either way, I hope I'm at that location at the correct time to recover my laser.
To date, I have been unsuccessful in building my own T.A.R.D.I.S. ;
my Police Box is still the correct internal dimensions relative to it's exterior.
Damn it all!

I got the 150mW "cute" green laser pointer from O-Like.
I hope it isn't faulty or dies on me in a short amount of time. =(

it didn't just appear suddenly did it?
possibly with some sort of EM disturbance?
or a large bubble that annihilates everything it comes in contact with and turning sand into glass?

Just before a cyborg from the future wins a male stripper contest?

I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe this is what you imagine what a wormhole that steals lasers looks like?
