I just LOVE this build and I ordered pretty much the same exact SS 18650 setup you have. Quick question:

What lens would you recommend? The 405-G-1 costs too much and I hear makes a horrible "dot". The driver for my laser will be maxed at 1.5A so I am sure it will have plenty of power to burn things. The AixiZ 445 is what I am thinking of getting because it has the best divergence but I also understand the AixiZ 405 has a bit more power. Which would you choose for the best balance of power vs. divergence?

I have a Aixiz 445 on this right now but I am waiting for some more Aixiz 405's from O-Like. I will be using them since the divergence is about the same but give a little better power. The only thing is you have to be creative to get an adapter on this half-threaded sucker. Or you could just glue it. Not a solution that I was willing to do. I also keep the G-1 around for burning and power tests.

Remember that the AixiZ/O-like 405 does not have a good way to attach an EzFocus adapter...

You have to glue it on because it is only a 'half threaded' lens nut...

Edit: Oh... DTR beat me to it...

Thanks for the quick response guys, I guess I will just stick with the Aixiz 445 lens. By the way, do these lenses have an in/out orientation when assembling? Over the years I have collected quite a few different Aixiz lenses but I don't remember if there is a proper way to mount them into the module. I just always made sure I put them back together the exact same way I took them apart. Thanks again...

If you mean face one way or the other, i would imagaen they are probably (| shaped, Never took one apart my self...

Anyone know the next time they'll be doing $30 rounds for the 1W lasers? Or is that gone for good? I know once you were able to get them for $30, instead of $55

I got mine today from jayrob and the diode from daguin. I asked him to set the driver current at 540 mA, because this power is not a toy at all and if I want I can set it higher. This laser is AWESOME, and what a host. I can easily cut a match with it, and light in a hard way, so I think I won't set the current higher, its enough for me, and I can use the laser with longer duty cycle. I am very happy with this treasure :), and the feeling, that I built such a powerful, beautiful laser is priceless! I can only offer it to you!
I use the laser with the $8 focal price goggles and I have to say, that this goggles filter the 445nm light very well, so you can burn anything with this type of goggles on, protecting your eyes. The brightness of my 445nm @540mA laser is like my 150 mW o-like one, but I like better this beautiful royal blue color.

Here is some pictures that I promised. I don't have a good camera, neither good photography skills so excuse me.
I used teflon tape on the aixiz lens to make the twisting smooth and tight. I didn't use spring.
The green is the 150mW o-like cute, what is in my signature.

Looks good. I currently only have my phone to take pictures.

The spring is unnecessary. All you should need is 1.5 wrap's with the Teflon tape for a good tight fit.

What is up with the green o-ring between the head and the heatsink? Did you add that or did it come with the kit?

Great photos! I can't wait to get my kit once Jayrob has some more V5 FlexDrives in stock. I opted not only for the upgraded copper heatsink, but also for the $25 copper module (where the diode is mounted) since mine will me maxed out at over 1.4 amps!

My question to you is does the copper heatsink fit TIGHTLY within the host? Can you feel the entire host heat up when left on for a few minutes or does only the heatsink get hot? Also, why did decide to not use the spring in the module? Just curious, thanks!

I have both the copper heatsink and copper module. You can feel the heat spreading out throughout the whole host. The entire unit acts as a heatsink which is great. I noted this in my review as one the the best advantages of this build. I was able to get a three minute run with the flexdrive set to max out of this beast.:eg:

Okay, so the copper heatsink must fit really tight inside the host for the heat to be dissipated this good. I was only curious because on one post I saw that it was necessary to "center" the heatsink within the host; which led me to believe there was a lot of room in between the heatsink and host.

I assume that you left it on only for 3 minutes because of the duty cycle and not because this beast drains your battery that fast ;)

The green ring is the o-ring for the flashlight host for waterproof. I put it there because this way I can twist the driver holder ring more tight. The ring is flexible. The heatsinking is very good! The full body get warm but slowly, and I can use it with long duty cycle (more than 2 min, it can be much more, but I am rather aware). Mine is set only 540 mA, it drains 1A from the battery so I will buy a good capacity sanyo 2600mAh battery because the ultrafire doesn't last so long. If you don't have a good quality battery you will need it as I do.
I used the teflon tape because with the spring it is a bit loose. But with teflon tape it is perfect. As DTR wrote 1,5 wrap's is enough.
