So my new DHOM green laser arrived. The laser was as a 1 Watt but I asked them to find one with a higher power. They were very helpful and said the one I’ll receive will output 1600-1800mW. I tested the laser when it arrived and it did indeed do 1657mW. A steal @ $850!

I benchmarked the laser with my 510mW green labby. The spot was of the DHOM was MUCH brighter than the 510mW as expected. Blinding bright! However, after filling the room with smoke the beam brightness seemed identical. Possible eye saturation of the green beam? I don’t know. Even outside the beams were almost identical in visibility. Again the spot on the wall was much brigher. I was expecting a huge difference between 510 and 1657mW! The only way to see a beam difference was by having them side by side in a lit room without smoke. Only then is the 1600mW fairly more visible.

This means that future green upgrades would have to be @ the 4-5 Watt range for an acceptable brighter beam. Upgrading to a 2.5W greenie wouldn’t then appear much brighter than a 1.6W.....

Anyway, I imbedded the new laser into my system and simple math showed that 1650 green + 1800 blue + 1187 red = 4647mW all lines. This was NOT the case.

Total output after dichroics and scanners was a “low” 2500mW. The loss of red is expected as the beam doesn’t quite fit the mirrors on the galvos but there is some 500mW loss per green/blue laser due to the dichroics. Sad

Don’t know if it would be worthwhile replacing the dichroics...?

I must give the green DHOM high praises for overall built quality. The divergence is rather good (about 60mm) after 26 meters. The 510mW green was @ 90mm. It may not be American or German quality but well acceptable at the low price.

For a green to appear double the brightness you'd need around four times the power. So while 1600mW is close, you'd need a good 2W+ for it to be twice as bright as your 500mW. I'd definitely look into the best dichros you can afford (or can't, a little debt for a lot of beam is worth it sometimes ;) ) to cut down on losses. You can also try cleaning your dichros even if they don't appear that dirty, flecom gained a huge power increase just by cleaning his dichros. Nice review, that thing was a serious steal at $0.50 a milliwatt!

Nice.. Where did you buy it?

From Meirelight....Second product I've purchased. They were spot on with their specs with regards to laser output. You can negotiate pricing and shipping is free. Both lasers arrived within 3 days.

Gee thanks. Couldn't believe what a little clean could do! Gained 200mw from green, 100mw from red and blue.

I think I really need to buy bigger galvo mirrors. I don't mind a sacifice in slower scanning speed. The scanners do 45kpps now. Even if it goes to 25K it will be worth it.

Problem is the mirrors are 22 euros and shipping is 150 euros. Crazy for something so small!!!
German laser products are great....some of their pricing isn't. (the galvos, software and drivers are from Germany)

Also, any ideas where to get good dichroics?

Hey! I dunno how I missed this thread. Oh well looks like I found it. Glad you like your laser! Nice review too!
