a blu-ray runs of of 9v not 6 you would have to add another cr123 to even get the blu-ray to laze with one of deadals drivers

Just use a regular 9v battery, the blue-ray diode doesn't draw much current, so it should be fine. ;)

I started out with 2 CR123 driving through a 7805 reg, I just got a glimmer.
RCR123's with same circuit works well (7.2v). If you are going for the LM317 reg you will, as stated already, need 9v and the PP3 is ideal.

Sorry, but two CR123s won't run a LM317 driving a red for very long without dropping out of regulation. But the RCR123s seem to work well.
