Most people seem to want as narrow a beam as possible for burning etc, but what about making a wide beam? I would like to be able to adjust the beam from narrow to wide, eg something like 10cm @ 1m. I am thinking about getting a Sony diode preinstalled in an Aixiz module from Stonetek. Do these modules give you a wide range of adjustment? Is it easy to adjust using only your fingers? Thanks.

You can adjust them easily, as I have been including the silver focusing ring with all modules purchased (while supplies last ! LOL) and that makes it simple to focus - I DO suggest a tiny spot of super glue inside the silver ring (after you make certain you wish to use it) to hold it to the plastic on the lens better - sometimes you can adjust the ring right off the lens if you are not cautious :p It screws right back on, but can be a little bit annoying sometimes.

Thanks for the reply. Is it also useful to get the glass collimating optics? I'm new here so I don't know how all this stuff fits together...

The glass lens is nice - it ads a bit of power to the output<-less light absorbed by glass than with plastic/acrylic-> they have an "odd" focus though - you have to be careful that you don't over-tighten the lens in place, or you can do damage to your diode ! Take a peek for posts by Jayrob - he has an actual chart that shows the difference that each lens type makes :) {I bow to his greater knowledge in that area, for sure !}
