well i actually have 2 questions.

1st- what kind of tool do you use to harvest a diode from an aixiz module?
2nd-well i have a diode but i dont know if its red or IR. can someone tell me how i could figure this out? much help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

If I care about the diode I use a piece of hollow antenna that will just fit over the can and press it out on my vice. If I don't care I use a punch and a hammer [smiley=evil.gif]

About the only way to tell what kind of a diode an unknown is, is to give it some power and see what color comes out the end ;)

A small length of brass tubing from a hobby shop (they sell different diameters). If the tubing is a bit too big, I use a small saw to cut slots down length wise about 1/4" so it can fit.
