The multiplier bit is easy to remember if you think of it as being 10^x, x being the digit the color represents.;)
So 10^black = 1, 10^brown=10,etc....

So gold would be -1 and silver -2.

LOL, yes, and that was done just for the comodity of the automated positioning machines (cause it's much more easy, for a positioniong machine, to manage "standard size" components, than just wire pieces).

(ofcourse, this is an advantage only til someone exchange them with the 100K resistors wheel in the machine for joke :p :eg: :D)

Yeah I have a lot of these SMD 0 ohm ... well, can't call them resistors now, can we?
Jumpers?

They always have traces running under them, so I believe they were added for ease of designing the PCB and all. Without them, perhaps you'd have to move a lot of components around and use a lot more vias to get the connections right (if you even get them).

So I'd disagree about them being funniest components.

0 ohm resistors have to be one of the funniest components created :D

Yeah, take the inverse of 0 ohms and you get 1/0 siemens of conductance.

That's either a superconductor, or a confused calculator with "syntax error" on your hands!

Well if we were to simplify stuff now, a number divided by zero would be infinite. So, conductance is infinite, current flows without any possible losses.

However that's ideal, we all know there's always some resistance.

Now THAT would be a proper and useful 0 Ohm resistor.

Not long I'd guess, they have been sucessful in making one at only -80°C, instead of temps close to apsolute zero.

At least, so I've heard.

How about an ionized HeNe tube? Those have negative resistance I hear, so a pot in series should allow adjustment to precisely 0 ohms :D

Screw liquid helium, MRIs should use HeNe lasers! :shhh:

Isn't negative resistance impossible to make?

I mean, you'd actually get more energy on output than input of such system. Unless you take some other energy and input that into existing system, but that's negative resistance, that's just added energy from another source.

And since Gas Lasers release a lot of light and terribly more heat, how can one assume it's negative resistance?

I think the actual record for superconductive material is still 254K (19C) ..... don't know if the element have a name, the chemical formula is "(Tl4Ba)Ba2Ca2Cu7O13+" (try to pronounce it all in a row :p :D) ..... not 100% sure, anyway, i've seen that in a page from jan 2010, maybe in the meantime someone discovered something better .....

Negative resistance already exist in nature ..... it's called "woman" (poke them with some energy, and you will receive much more energy in reply ..... j/k :p :D)

Formula was like, from top of your head right this moment? :p If no, could you provide link to page you've read it?

Oh and about women, it's no wonder, they are known to openly oppose all laws of physics, this one is no exeption.

Theres another program with electronic formula's and codes, for the iphone called "electronic toolbox" I use it all the time :)
