Want to build a laser, brand new.

So here's the deal, I bought a laser pointer not long ago. A little 5 mW Violet laser pointer just for playing around with. Nothing severe, just playing with cats and stuff. But recently I thought of wanting one with a little more omph. So I started looking online and it seems that getting a Diode is easier than getting a full laser pointer.

Now, I've done simple repairs for electronics, rewiring a pick up on a guitar, replacing batteries on a Ipods and such. Simple things. I have 0 knowledge in this area but have slight skill with what might be needed. I was wondering if I could be pointed directly to some threads that would help me build a Laser pointer from a diode and whatever else I'd need.

There are kits out there that all you have to do is solder up some wired and youre done. Sounds like something right up your alley. Do a search for JayRob. He has many kits and styles.
