Hi

I was wondering what sort of batteries and voltages are needed for

1. rkcstr driver for 803T
2. rkcstr driver for open can red LD
3. LM-317 driver for 803T
4. LM-317 driver for open can red LD

DX Ultra Fire 14500 x 2 for (2) and (4)?
DX Ultra Fire 14500 x 3 for (1) and (3)?

Thanks!

I can answer ur question for LM317 drivers.

I take it that ur refering to the DDL circuit, and in that case, you have to make room for up to 3V dropout. For red LDs, they require around 3V, for violet (aka blu-ray), they require 5V. Hence you'd need 6V and 8V respectively.

These are the minimum voltages required for the LM317 driver circuits. Typical voltages used due to ease, is 7.2V and 9V respectively.

As for the rkcstr driver, someone with experience in that will have to help you. :)

for 1, and 2 i run 2x 10440 3.6v x2 = 7.2v

and for 3, and 4 i use 2x AA or AAA, depending on the driver design

It really all depends on your host Peter.

If your got a host using 3xAAA batt and your using the Rkcstr driver. than you need to use the DX 10440 batteries thats the same size but with higher voltage 3x 10440 = 3x 3.7V =11.1V which is okay to. the Rkcstr driver needs more power to drive the driver and diode than the MicroFlex driver.
If your host takes 2xAA than you need to find the batt on DX which most likely tobe 3.7V also.

But you can use a 9V batt for the BR, Rkcstr and the Red diode with Rkcstr Driver.

Have you gotten my module i sent you yet Peter??

Hey, thanks, Tommy, for the reply.

Nope, still waiting eagerly for the modules... will have to find a suitable host for the red :)

I ordered harvested sleds from ndrew too; they have arrived but the dr. lava groove drivers have not...
I intend to use ndrew25's 803T with the groove drivers.

thanks!

hey, you know what? I received an email from Google Checkout. My groove kits are on their way here... judging from my last experience, it will probably take another month but at least I know they are shipped.

Thanks!

the rckstr driver needs 2.4v on top of whatever you need for the LD, so for most red lasers, you need 3v for the LD and 2.4 for the rckstr driver, so you need atleast 5.4v 2x 3.6v batteries are best so it won't drop below the minimum.....although i am using 2x CR2 3v batteries and they do fine for my 16x LD from stonetek.

p.s. the batteries were reading 5.14v when i tested it too.....so i dunno.....but the above text is what everyone has told me.

Thanks for all the inputs:

Summary:

Voltage Drop:

1. LM-317 - 3V
2. RCKSTR - 2.4 V

Laser Diode:
1. Red - 3V to lase
2. 803T - 5V to lase

Thanks!

BTW, Tommy, I receive the laser module today! Thanks, that's faster than I expected.

I received the host, some cool optics, and the LD modules. The plastic that holds the strap for the host was broken (i think due to shipping), but it is ok; it is not very important to me.

Thanks!

Get a Jayrob to build you one, he makes them for the pocketpal, which are exactly the same as the host i sent you. And im glad you got everything in 1 peace except for the strap ;D

But if you notice i put some heatshrink over the module so you dont get curious and open the module ;D the pin might break if you do. dont say i didnt warn you ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Tommy

Both modules tested great!

You mentioned heat-shrink;are you referring to the white and green tube like covering over the mdoules?
I was thinking of taking them out because I want to add more heat sinking... so can I just leave the heat-shrinks on and still use extra heat sink around it?

Thanks!

Hi Tommy

I absolutely love the 350 mW red laser module; the ruby red colour is super; plus the burning, awesome! Where did you get this? Do you have anymore?
