Hi, i just saw a video of burning laser and i found it amazing. Then i started to read about lasers and i found a passion!
I want to build a laser and i have lot of questions:
1) first what i need?
i was going to buy the aixiz module and diode from stonetek but i wonder if i should buy it all done? or make it myself?
and i would need some recomendation on the rest.
2) i really dont know how to make it, i'v looked some tutos and i have still questions...so if you know the link for a topic that explains everything with details, i would appreciate!

thank you for your help, ill Edit this post if i got more questions

please spend some time reading these forums! read the FAQ and just spend some time reading the tutorials.

ALL your questions have already been answered 100+ times

if you have already read the tutorials then ask specific questions in that thread.

Buying one is ALWAYS "easier" than making one. It just isn't as much fun. Of course with that fun, comes risk.

I think what you should do is to look through all tutorials regardless of what kind of laser you are building. I.e. if ur building a portable open can red burning laser, look at the blu-ray tutorials as well.

This way you can identify what are the common things to all lasers. Then, look at the buy/sell section and see if u really wanna buy one premade.

If not, then just go right ahead and order the components, and try to assemble. Most should be common sense, and i think experimenting is the best way to learn. It's not possible to have a complete know-how before you start building your first laser, just like no one can teach you how to cycle. I suppose that's why it's called a DIY.

you need a diode....
you need module so you can focus the light
you need a driver to regulate the current
you need a power source.

and you need alot of time and money to waste

and your golden!

I think something like 40% of the regular users on this forum are teenagers, myself included. I'm still a laser n00b too, but I can surely say that the research does a lot. john_lawson linked you to the thread that started me up, and then I searched through a ton of tutorials until I found one that I liked and ordered my parts. You should also probably order a heatsink (jayrob sells great heatsinks, and some members will custom make them for you) or make one out of washers.

And do NOT forget laser safety goggles or try to use sunglasses in place! Sunglasses actually make it WORSE.

...i don't know what is a heatsink and stuff like that lol...

The heatsink is the light green bit in the drawing below, the Aixiz module is pressed into it so that heat generated by the Laser diode will spread through a larger mass of metal, it takes the heat away..... it sinks heat ;)

On most MXDL builds you will see the heatsink as the silver coloured metal bit sticking out of the front of the flashlight with the lens adjuster sticking out of the middle. (the drawing is a section through the front end of the flashlight, I drew it for some other reason but thought it may help)
