I discovered a great way to instantly remove dead diodes from an Aixiz module. A spring loaded punch used for drilling. One pop and the diode flew right out -- first try. Much better than the hammer and .22 cartridge method. I wouldn't use this for any working diodes you plan on using again however, since it packs quite a wallop. Here's a picture:

Go carefully, if the centrepop is set too hard you may distort the back of the Aixiz housing, which will stop your new LD from seating correcly.
