Trouble getting laser module apart

SO I got yelled at for posting on a old thread so let me try this the right way; I read a thread by Styropyro on how to replace the laser module on the cheap ebay laser pointers, and I must say that was the only how to I've seen on those cheap lasers that was not total b.s...
Now my problem is that when I take out the end cap, all that comes out is the end cap. The rest of the module stays put, any ideas on how to get it out? I also plan on cutting the battery barrel down and only having one 104440 battery in there instead. Please tell me what you think about doing that instead of putting a spacer in the barrel, and what your approach to removing the laser module out would be. Please telll me if there is anything I did wrong on this thread, thank you!

It's probably glued in. You should find a more worthy host to put that module in, especially if it's higher powered. Those crummy Newwish lasers are okay for 5mW lasers and stuff, but even then, they get warm from the heat those things create.

With those barrels that are screwed in, if you're going to cut it down, are you then going to rethread it so that it can reattach? With all that effort maybe just find a better host.

Just use this it is much simpler than taking the module out of an old one.

No it is a AAA host

Pffft silly me - I browsed away from the host you mentioned, to the focusable torch one.

About the best way to do that is to press it out, you will need the proper tools to do that operation starting with a press and an anvil made to receive the host's end and hold it and let the module slide out.

Option: get new host...

Well I was planning on cutting down the end of it where the little clip is attached, then just removing the cap from the cut off end and pushing back into the new shortend end of the battery barrel. I really like that idea of just getting a whole new host pen and not destroying my little greenie. Now as a few of you said to get a new host, what kind of pretty cheap hosts are there that I could fit this module in? On the same sight where they had the new wish pen host the had one for eleven bucks, would that be good and would it fit in there? May I ask what your replacing it with or have to put in it

Well I palnned on putting this 200mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme in it, I'm not sure. It seemed that the price was okay and would be simple enough to put in. Is there any better options out there that is somewhat cheap and somewhat simple tp put in? I'm not really looking for a light saber, just something between 100 and 200mw's (maybe a little bigger). If you have any other opionions I would appreciate them, thank you.

What I did when I had to extract a module form one of those was to use a Dremel multitool with a angle grinder disk. Then I just cut the host from the end till right after the module and then it was no problem to expand the host and just pick the module up. I made sure that the emitting end of the module was well protected from metal dust with a cloth.

EDIT: After i extracted the module I had to find the exact current it was set for so I wouldnt kill it once I hooked it up to a proper driver. If you are going to use a different driver than the one that came with it you can use a testload to determine the current flowing to the diode. As others in that thread pointed out there are easier ways to go about this. It was suggested to use a variable bench psu which would then display the draw, however I made my own PSU and had to do this the "hard" way.
