Is there some way I can make a driver for a 70mW red diode thats small enough to fit inside the MagLite? I would rather not solder the parts directly to the diode.

BLueFusion makes custom circuits, try PMing him to see if he can make a tiny one..

FYI, you are better off soldering the capacitor directly to the diode, otherwise there is a 99.999% chance that you will eventually short your L diode with it.

9.25x17.5mm, small enough for you? Currently testing, but looking to sell some limited quantities up here soon.

wat sort of current and voltage would those put to the diode?

If you're talking to me... the plan was to offer a preset range of 38 (for blu-ray) up to 400ma (for reds). It's essentially the same as the LM317 current regulator circuit (a low-drop out version) that Daedel had posted, so it can drive whatever diode voltage you need if you supply the right input voltage.

I'll be posting more information in the Experiments forum in the coming days.

thats some damn fine engineering :) hope it works out and ends up on our b/s/t forums soon :)
