Hey Garoq, I was wondering if you can use a single 18650 battery with your set up?

You can, but the laser output will only be 150-200mW. On the positive side, it's like having a two-mode laser!

Interesting, I wonder if you could use two of those drivers in parallel with a 2W Nichia diode to increase the output? Hmm, not sure what kind of driver it is though.

I assume you are talking about the A140 diode which can produce a maximum of about 2 watts laser output using 1.8A current without seriously jeopardizing reliability. Two of these drivers would produce 2.5A, which is too much power for these diodes.

Ah ya, that's true. Is the driver for the survival laser kit linear or boost?

-Thanks for answering my questions :)

Its a linear driver, thats how you can have 2 power "modes" via 2x cr123a vs 1x 18650. Would be nice to have a boost driver but its a simple buck driver, works great for what it is. I have a few lying around waiting for time and money to go into a project.

The DIY kit doesn't come with the battery contact board/circuit board in the pill, you have to purchase it separately. Will the circuit still be complete if you just press the circuit board into the brass ring or do you have to solder the brass ring to somewhere on the board? Also doesn't include heatsink, but thats no problem.
Thanks

What DIY kit are you talking about? The one described in this tutorial comes with a heat sink and a preinstalled driver.

You are looking at the host only. It comes with the pill and brass ring but no circuit board. Those can be purchased separately.

Oh ok, i assume you had to buy the heat sink to? Just your personal opinion, how do you think a purple heat sink with a normal focusing ring and a phr 803t diode would look?
