What You Will Need:

1x 5mW Green Laser
1x Small Screwdriver
1x Pair of needle nose pliers
(Optional) Knife to help remove the cap

The Pictures Go In Order With The Text Instructions.

1. Find a way to remove the cap from your laser.
2.Get your needle nose pliers and start to twist the collimating lens housing.
3.Once you get the housing out (set aside for now) you can get your small screwdriver.
4. Stick the screwdriver head into the little indent on the side of the housing of the doubling crystal.
5. Now just fiddle around until you pop that hole piece out and set that aside.
6. Re-insert the collimating lens housing into the laser just barely. (Only twist in 3-5 times)
7. Now you are done!!!

WARNING!!
IR LASERS ARE VERY DANGEROUS AS ARE MOST LASERS!!! PLEASE USE PROPER EYE PROTECTION WHEN HANDLING AND LASERS!!!

The last picture is not very clear but its showing the IR dot on a black surface.

You need to practice a little patience.....:yh:
It was only 34 minutes after you opened your thread
that you asked for comments...

Some members are no doubt looking at other Threads
or are not even on line...

Give it 24 hours so that even the International member
(that may be sleeping at this time) can see your Thread
and reply if they so desire...

Nice job for the 1st try...

I've done it years ago and it is not new to me...
We now use 5W to 12W IR Lasers in the shop...

Yes but this was something i had to try when i saw my pile of old green lasers. Haha but thanks i hope to improve on it today. I wish i could measure the output but i dont have the tools. Im guessing its around 75mW to 100mW?
any gueses?

You will need a Laser Power Meter to measure the outputs of
your Lasers..
There are a few Threads that show you how you can make a
DIY LPM... You could read up on those...

Unfortunately, I couldn't get this to work for me. Not sure what might have gone wrong, but I don't get any effect at point blank range on paper, rubber or plastic of any color. I don't have an LPM or anything else to check power with, but I can't even see a beam or dot using a camera, which in my experience picks up IR better than we see.

I'm not saying this doesn't work, I'm just warning other users that it didn't work for me with my laser.

Cheers for the tut, though!

proof of concept for all those gun people who want an IR laser to go with their night vision stuff. Everyone knew it could be done, nobody did it and documented it.
