Waste not want not this was assembled basically from scrap and left over parts!
I like it so much I think I'm going to make one from a new Maglight!

You can solder the lower half of a housing into a coupling cut the threaded portion off the male adapter and press the top portion of the housing into it. When assembled and installed it will use the whole body of the Maglight and even your hand as a heatsink!

The other pictures show how to use a PVC pipe section as a sleeve to accommodate any length battery. The copper coupling can easily be soldered to and your module covered with heatshrink tubing if you prefer to keep the case isolated from the host.

I am working on a threaded version that will all just screw together using O-Like modules. I would provide more details but I was banned here as Ronnie James Diode basically for sticking up for myself!

I wanted to share some of my design ideas hopefully to help a few people, also I wanted to show I'm not the idiot I was made out to be and not a bad person at all! I am sure I will get banned again so it doesn't really matter!

Looks like sweet build ...
But something troubles me.

In very first pic, you show a comparison with lighter... aprox 10 cm lenght?
In last pic, I see a barrel that accomodates two AA batteries. How come?

Is this an optical illusion we have here (the head threaded to the half of barrel)?
Looks weird! :D

Two different examples that is why. The first is a Maglight barrel cut in half it uses one 6v 105maH battery that is exactly half the size of a AA.

The second is just an example of how to accommodate different batteries.
Instead of the 3.6v in the picture two 3.6 1/2 AAs' one or two 6v or one 12v
depending on your power needs and driver choice. I use a 6v with the flex drive and two 3.6v with the rkcstr!

6V for the flexdrive?
I have a flex drive manual here that tells me, "If 6V or greater battery source is to be used, the voltage input must be dropped to no greater than 5.8VDC."

You shouldn't need more than 3-4.2V for the flex drive. Even when used with high Vf diodes, the flex drive will draw more current from the battery to boost the voltage.

I left out alot of details to simplify my answer. When using a red LD in a standard size barrel I use two 3.6v AAs and a Rkcstr V3 driver. If using a BlueRay LD with a Flex Drive in a single battery design I will use a 6v and 1N4000 series diode to drop the voltage. I use resistors to drop voltage as well depending on what my exact voltage and current needs are. I try to stay as close to my desired V/A as possible when choosing batteries. I like how Maglights look but there are just no 3v batteries out there that will fit. I do have a $90.00 surefire tactical flashlight that uses two 3v but I hate to turn it into a laser its an awesome little light!

If you want 6v for a Blueray in a Maglight host and dont want to have alot of excess voltage to deal with from using two 3.6v batteries you can make a sleeve for your barrel like I showed, you will need a boost driver though (6v battery only has like 100 - 120maH) Really the exact voltages will depend on what your using and building this was just a example of how to accommodate different battery types. The super mini Maglight I showed was built just to use up old parts and I just wanted to see how it would look like that. It sure fits in the pocket nicely and you don't see to many others like it.

Thanks for looking and asking questions I have a few other ideas I am working on that I will share once I work the bugs out, If you wanted to build a super mini I could provide more details as far as measurements, parts needed and problems I had assembling.

Thanks again for reading!

Robert, it was not because you stuck up for yourself, rather the way you went about it.

A good friend once told me, if you are feeling frustrated, compose your reply on note pad and save it.

Go take a break, wait a day, and then read your reply to yourself, maybe the next morning after you have calmed down. If it still makes sense, then go ahead and post it.

nearly every time, once the initial wave of emotion has passed, you will read that message and realize that you composed several paragraphs of psychotic babble ;)

Another handy thing that will keep things smooth for everyone, look at the post count and rep scores of those you chose to lock horns with, go read that persons profile, chose your words wisely and realize that calling a person who had been around forever names is only going to escalate the situation to a full boil.

It was blatantly obvious that you were upset, That's why the intelligence level of your replies plummeted with every keystroke, I bet fault lines shifted from the way you were hammering on those keys, the neighbors were hiding under furniture from the fury of your typing.

I can tell right now that after a couple days of chilling out your outlook has improved (at least a little) so in summary all I can say is if your "smoking hot under the collar" log off, chill out, take a break and reply to all of it when your not so mad you could scream.

Nice writeup Photo!

Agreed 100%.

RJD, take his advice, it was given to you in the nicest way possible.
And I do like your build ;)

Was he let back on the Forum or did he sneak back in under a new account...
Normally when a member gets UnBanned he uses the same User Name...

Think about it a second Jerry, His last user name was Ronnie James Diode, now it's RJD.

He simply re-registered

Been a bit of that lately.

I just read the Things' thread about NOT testing diodes with AA batts.

Hot damn. He hooked up his +probe on DMM on 10A jack, switched to 200mA scale, and shorted the battery.
Claiming that AA battery provides 25 mA in short circuit.

Well, care to explain why do AAAs power 150mW pen lasers requiring about 700mA?

Group facepalm anyone?

*EDIT* forgot to mention, he thinks that capacity ratings in mAh ... are maximum current draw ratings.
Make that double group facepalm.

Photo, got any for this occassion? :D

I saw it somewhere else on the forum, have it in my documents still :)
Just don't know how to post it without uploading to somewhere else than forum itself.

here is the direct link....

http://www.fallen-legion.eu/news/data/upimages/DoubleFacePalm.jpg

just click the little yellow square in the editor tool bar and insert that line, or just use the BB code followed by /img Brackets left off on purpose [][/QUOTE]

Yeah, but that is direct linking the image from another internet site,
but what about when I want to attach my own image?
I don't feel like uploading every one to photobucket (that are non related to lasers).

But seems I have no other choice...

well, I have a few webs sites, so I have a server I pay for.. It makes it easier for me.

Use the free gallery on the forum, it's not bad.

Yeah... I'm aware of that...
That's why I'm asking if he was let back on the forum under a new
account..
by the administation or did he just sneak back in to spread more
AA battery BS... like on this Thread...

Is it not against the Forum Rules to open a 2nd Account while under
a Ban....
