Spinout, it's better to use rcr123s because their voltage is 3.6v per cell compared to the 3v of the normal cr123s. DDl's driver needs at least 6v to power the diode, so as soon as the cr123s start to drop, the LM317 won't deliver enough current to the diode and so it will start dropping out.

I realize this Chido, I have a pack of cr123's that I bought before your post for $15 at radioshack for 2 of them!!! Where is a good place to get rcr123 or recharbles?

spinout, there was another guy on here named woolaser, and he also almost led someone to believe that thier diode was completely dead (it turned out it was dead, but thats beside the point)

DONT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS,

I QUOTE FROM HIS PM TO ME:

hi amkdeath this is jake my voiltage is around 3.1 range i tryed many diffrent batteries i cant find my camera but when its on my driver its dim but still works what should be my voiltage for it ?

he was using 3 volts...

thats why his laser was dim

NOTE TO JAKE:
post on the thread, that way newer members can learn from other's mistakes.

regards,

amk

I ran my diode at 3V, and its still going!

Things,
He was running the driver with 3 volts... ;D No wonder his diode was dim.. :p

5.58v is not enough to drive the regulator...... what batteries are you using?

The way I read this is that he has over 5 volts on the diode itself. That seems high. He's not saying what voltage is applied to the driver circuit. Must be around 9 volts.

Yeah... if your putting 5+ volts to the diode thats why its dead :p

If your meant 5+ volts INTO the circuit, measure the voltage going to the diode.

...sorry about that i jump to  conclusions to quick sometimes :-[ ..., i had a problem before with my circuit too, i think i messed up wireing causing it to get like 40ma giving a really dim red dot, make sure you have more than 6v going to the circuit so it wont drop out, then make sure nothing is shorting out in the circuit.. remember the metel back on the lm317 is connected with the center pin so that can short out if it touches something... as for a test i would take 2aa batteries and simply put a capictor in paralel and around a 3ohm resistor in series, that should be safe just to give it a quick test to see if it works.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D
