Default Serious problems with (formerly) awesome unidentifiable green laser pointer!

Dear fine folk of the laser community,

I have some issues that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have this fantastic green laser pointer that stopped working as well as it had and I'd like to know why. Beforehand, it shone a bright green striking beam of light into the sky like nobody's business and could easily mark a dot on the side of a building more than a mile away in the dark.

Now, it is barely brighter than a low-grade presentation red laser pointer, and no beam is visible.

I got this laser from a friend over a year ago and it just at one point decided to stop working.

The things tripping me up are:
1) There is no visible brand anywhere on the device, thus I cannot contact any customer support. I've asked other companies if I could send it in for them to fix and they were unhelpful.

2) There is no clear way to disassemble the main laser (housing?) or whatever it might be called- I'm not familiar with the terminology. I can't see any screws, openable seals, or seams, and so I can't try to troubleshoot it myself at this point.

I've included a bunch of pictures of it and its components, and I would be very happy to hear back from anyone that thinks they know what is going on or what I could do to start fixing it.

TL;DR My laser was badass, now it sucks. Here are pictures. Please help me.

P.S., I'm familiar with how forums work. I read through the repair and green laser sections quickly to see if I could find my answer elsewhere but nothing presented itself to me. Feel free to forward me to another thread if this problem already exists and I'll apologize in advance.

THANK YOU for your help! I appreciate it.

Where did you buy this laser?
It strongly resembles the original Spyder from WickedLasers from around 2006(?).

It sounds like the pump diode quit working. Lasers do not last forever, so if this laser is well used and pretty old, it may just have been its time to go.

It can be repaired if the pump diode is replaced but the crystals would need to be re-aligned to match the new diode.

I would offer to repair it for you if I wasn't planning on taking a break from the hobby. Even if you manage to find the manufacturer, keep in mind that the repairs will be costly for an out of warranty laser. DPSS lasers are not easy to fix when a component needs to be replaced and nobody will likely do it for cheap considering the time it takes (assuming they can figure out how to safely take it apart to begin the repairs). My advice would be to buy a new laser.

Sorry to hear about your poor laser. Good luck.

Indeed. Thanks for your insight. With a little google image searching, I'm now fairly certain the laser IS a wickedlasers Spyder I, which is helpful. I've contacted the company but who knows what they'll say. I bought the laser from a friend, hence my lack of knowledge into its background. Hopefully it can be repaired, but if not, maybe another one is the way to go. Can you recommend anything comparable and not high-end?

That really looks like a rather good laser, it seems to even have an IR filter.
If you could disamssemble that part where it has the button. that would be great.
Because then you might be able to order a standard green module for relatively cheapand try to
swap it into your laser pen.
Does that battery holder put the two in parallel or series?

Anselm, I can't tell how the battery holder is wired. At a glance it looks like they're in series, but there is a yellow wire in half of it that looks like it could re-direct the power to parallel.

What difference would this make?

And I have included a picture of trying to disassemble where the button is, I've tried it before. The black rubber button comes off, exposing a button assembly that doesn't want to seem to come out without a fight.

Other suggestions? Possible repair folk that have a paypal account that I could contract to fix this?

In series, the voltage of the batteries would add up to 6V I guess, those are lithium
primaries (c2, c123, or something), aren't they?
It does look like it's wired up in parallel, which would mean the same voltage as one
battery, but twice the capacity/runtime.
It's what makes sense anyhow, since green laser's IR diodes need low voltage like ~2.2V
or something <3V, and not 6V like blues and violets.

In any case, the whole setup looks quite different from what is usual these days, so I think
you wouldn't be able to install a new module without performing some extensive modifications.
