Hello.
This post will be about my newest project.Named it RetroSaber. It's going to be a handheld 1 watt 445nm laser powered by 3*cr123 880mAh 3,7volt batteries.
Well I'm still waiting the diode(Ther where some problems with transportation lately,here....)...
As a host I used this:DealExtreme: $24.69 Aurora X-06-3 Cree P4-WC 120-Lumen LED Flashlight with Assault Crown (3*CR123A)
A great host that it can be taken apart in pieces and can be assembled to fit 1,2 or 3 cr's...Craftmanship is great...A bit hard clicky(one moden-off)
As a driver I will use the Led driver that the torch came with.Let me explain..
This driver is a buck driver. When supplied with 12,4 volts(fully charged 3*cr123 3,7 volt)it gives on a dummy load (5*N4007+1Ohm) a current of 1046 mAmp's and a voltage across dummy of 5,3volts(+/- 0,1)...It has a soft start function and had only showed spikes on oscillator when powered from a HYelec HY1802D power supply at 12,4 volts(current draw ~650mA) when switching off the PS..(average spike:4.4 Amp)Well i don't think that there will be a problem when powered from batteries...:undecided:
the driver:
As for module i used my favourite:the industrial aluminium 18mm anodized 405/445 module from o-like..although there are many other who sell the exact same module..It comes with the standart Aixiz 3 element glass AR mono-coated lens.more power loss than other single lens, but better beam correction..
(later some pics of the lens)
Although it has cooling fins and does a great job up to 300mWatts alone ,it should be epoxied with an aluminium or, better ,copper heatsink.I prefer aluminium, though. This heatsink is also the retainer of the module into the host..( the last acts as a last stage heatsink,if the retainer has good and as much a.p. surface contact with the host..)
front view of retainer with the module epoxied inside:
side view:
together, as host module, with driver pill:
Up till now:
To be continued....
