Replacing laser driver

So I got a new laser in from laserlands the other day, placed the batter in (correct direction) and nothing. So I opened it up and looked down the tube and smelled something wrong (Im an experimental physicist so I have learned the smell of bad electronics, never a happy day). I emailed Mary and laser lands and its been about a week with no reply so I decided to just unscrew the heat sinc that holds the diode and driver to see the damage.
Here is what I see:

It seems a resistor came off the package during shipping or physically blew off during the first light. Upon visual inspection it appears that most of the components on the board are ok other that that single part. If anyone knew what the specs of the dead part were (labeled r26) I could easily replace it or if there was a compatible board for cheep. (probably less expensive than shipping it back to china and waiting)

Thanks!!

I would think if the resitor is fried and you let all of the smoke out of the board your laser diode is prolly trashed as well.

Its possible although a resistor is all of a few cents to check if she doesnt get back to me. And if I buy a new driver and that doesnt work I can just buy a new diode for 20-30 bux as I already have the host.

Which laser is this?
Can you take a better picture of the driver?

Make sure to use the Macro setting if your camera has one. It should look like a flower (macro icon) on most digital cameras.

You don't have to be an experimental physicist to know that an electronic component has fried...

Anyhow back on topic. Chances are your diode is fried also.

Which way you did put the battery? I think this laser should be case negative, like the "dilda".

neg down towards the spring like any normal person would do in a flashlight/laser that came with no instructions:-/. And yes I just checked the diode. Its only use now is to keep the hole in the heatsinc company.

And nope I dont have to be a physicist to know they are dead but you would be surprised how often I smell that same smell and start to swear like a sailor.

You can buy LPC sleds (will have a LOC) from modwerx, hightechdealz for around $10, or PM Glenn. He might have some LCCs (which I personally prefer) for a good price.
You can use a Rkcstr driver (set to 400-420mA), which should work well with your 2x CR2 battery host.

Dirac, The DX (DEAL EXTREME) website has several attachments for Iphones that will allow you to take either LONG RANGE or MACRO pictures, depending on which one you get. From what I've read, BOTH kinds work very well. rob

I've seen those around. Im only stuck with my iPhone because im in my lab at work otherwise I would use my DSLR at home (assuming I ever charge it). Speaking of which heres a fun reverse macro of a snowflake from all the snow thats been piled on me lately. http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2009/356/1/d/Crystal_Snow_by_coherentphotos.jpg

My GF just bought 2 of those. She only took a couple of quick pictures, but they seem to work fine. Cheap too.
