My green lasers button broke, and i small bit of poking at it made the whole internal chip fall out.

I can see what needs doing, i need to buy this small circuit board button, solder that on, and then resolder the chip to the back of the laser head...

i ahve had to hacksaw my pen in 2 to even get at this solder point... I have access to a spot welder for later though

My question is mainly about the pot meter, i am now at a point where i can ajust it,

I really want to XD, but i dont know how much... is a 30 degree clockwise turn lots or not much?

also any idears on good sites to but 1 tiny circuit board component off? :)

WOW I dont know where to begin, I would just replace the host at this point. and to adjust that pot, well lets just say I would not, you need to use a test load and a multi meter and do you know how much the pump diode was rated for?

Ok, sorry but i am new the the jargon around lasers...

"replace the host"?? whats that, sounds expensive (plus this pen is illegal in uk) probibly make getting bits for it tricky...

i have a multimeter... somewhere...

'pump diode rating' more jargon.... 532nm<.< ?

it says on it <250mw and 532nm...

so how do i use a multimeter to find out how much i can tweak it?

Sorry for the noob qustion after noob question, its just that with lasers... well im a noob >.>

Another thing i want to do to it is double up the battery, it takes 1 3.7 volt large battery, but it looks like its made to add anothe middle segment for 2 batterys.

(i say this becaus there is a piece that unscrews for no apperent reason, and if i had 2 more of them it would be the perfect size to double up the batterys, looks a lot like it was designed with this in mind.

Is this safer that pot tweakin it? i have tried it with 2 batterys and a joining wire before my button broke, it looked a bit stronger.

I just want advice from someone who knows what their talking about please.

My advice to you would be to just buy a new complete laser. No offense, but it seems by your apparent skills in this matter, you will likely just damage it further.

Thanks for a reply, but with all due respect, i disagree...

heres why...

!, as stated, i am unable to get this laser in uk, (legally), secondly i got a great deal on it, 12 british pounds...

Your right about my 'apperent skills' regarding lasers, next to none, yet i have a good set of skills in general repair (tv's ps3's xbox'x laptops etc)

And your overall point is to buy a new one, as to not damage the current...

Did u miss the bit where i said its in loads of pieces, hack sawed in half? i dont think i have much to lose in persavering at this laser, i can see what goes where, and if i solder it right, i dont see any reason why it wont work as it did.

The main advice i seek here is to do with the pot meter and maybe the double batterys...

As i said, i appreciate your reply, but i dont feel its relivent to what im asking, tbh.

just short the button and resolder the driver. but if you do that you will have to put it in a project box with a new switch

a host is basically the body of the laser. it can vary from project boxes to mustard bottles.

oh and you probably shouldn't mess with the potentiometer. if you can saw it in half, it's probably a newwish cheapie, which means the green module is binned. Binning basically means they already set it to the maximum power at the factory, so messing with the pot would probably just cause it to die faster. I say get a new host and switch and install the module.

Would you say attempting to spot weld the currant aliminium case would risk danger to the laser head?

Trying to think of what else i could fit it in...

also the end laser piece looks like it has somthing that fits over the lens and screws in, presumably to unscrew the laser head from the 'host', since i dont have anything to do this, i cant see how to get that piece out...

If i did, i wouldnt of needed to saw it up XD

Ill take the advice of leaving the pot, but what is your opinions on doubling the battery power, it takes Ultrafire 18650 3.7V '2400mAh X1 at the minute.

Maybe just get some piping the right size to fit the whole head in as is?... would look tacky though.

Would of prefeered the original case with a weld scar :p

Post some pics of what you got and we can make better recommendations on what to do with a host.
