Thanks for posting the photos.
It's nice to examine the failed diodes in such detail.
When I look at the 1 watt diode with 6 power leads melted,
I wonder about driving the 8X BR @ 441mw with only 2 leads.
The electrostatic damage was also interesting.

Sweet Bob! The pics of the diodes operating are possibly the best closeup LD pics I've ever seen. They really help you see how it all works in there.
Was the third 9mm diode (the one that says you tested to 530 mA) lasing or was that just incoherent LED light?
