Did you look at the picture above? That little black spot on the heat sink is the allen screw.

Ahh. I see it on the inside. How do I get the heatsink out? Does it screw out?

The module should set flush with the heat sink. Then tighten the allen screw down.

Then the lens....

And focus adapter...

Then the whole front end looks like this....

And these two pieces come apart like so...

Did you screw it on too tight? It should just twist off.

That's strange. just get a good grip and twist it as hard as you can without breaking the host

Maybe even use a vice if it really is that hard? o_O

Do you have the appropriate safety goggles?

Just want to make sure...you're dealing with some very dangerous stuff.

If not, go here:

Laser Safety

or here:

The deadline on the GB is tomorrow the 31st I think.

Also, check this out if you haven't already:

First off, I'm probably an idiot. Please forgive me. But I've come across a problem.
The module seems too long to fit between the host and the host's front.

See, this is what it looks like:
http://i.imgur.com/jSDuQ.jpg
I can't screw the head of the host back in, because the module is in the way.

It's probably because I'm doing something stupidly wrong. Like should the front be flush, like this:

And what is this for:
http://i.imgur.com/3MjSP.jpg

I probably should be using that.

So if anyone can explain the error in my ways, I would be eternally grateful.
PS: also, can someone assure me that I soldered the right wires together?

Ok guys! I got it out. It was just really tight. It's so amazing! I've already lit matches and burnt through electrical tape! (Of course, wearing goggles)

Thanks for helping me so much guys, I'm very new to building lasers, though I've been a laser fanatic for many years now. I might upload beam shots, but I mean, everyone's already seen it already.

My old green 100mW took like 3 seconds to light a match. When this is focused right, I just have to wave it in front, and BAM. Instantly. This is amazing.

It's at 1.8A. The beam is very thick. Like 5 times thicker than my green one. Not that its a bad thing. Just didn't expect it.

very nice Glenn, i like your picture by picture explanation, great for a first time builder.
I am sure when building a laser for the first time, there are always little things and tricks that first time builder might over look.

thanks once again

Not necessarily. His diode is multimode so it won't be as focused as other diodes. There's not much you can do.

Not necessarily. His diode is multimode so it won't be as focused as other diodes. There's not much you can do.
thats true, BUT he is using 3 element glass lens, which clips the beam and it is near circular (not perfect) dot and gives thin beam. So i think he might need to focus better. distance could also be the fact here (maybe he is shinning far away, in which case beam will get bigger, then near by)
