Hah, didn't even notice you are from Cro also,
But do everyone a favor and write in English please,

It confuses people here
(and I though I was losing it when I started reading the post  )

I'll shoot you a PM

I know, sorry, but i had to write in croatian...

I'll rewrite my post in english:

I belive that, it was wierd to me too... But i didn't find anything similar to typical laser didode in my dvd burner... I don't understand why would some sensor have 12 pins...

But never mind... I've just started to learn about laser. Maybe i'll have some luck with third dvd burner. :D

No, that 12 pins case have inside the diode and the revealer/preamplifier, and the glass block on it is an holographic element (it acts as a prism, a beam splitter and a mirror all together)

By the way, about the broken DVD, keep in mind that the red diode is the one that read and write DVD, and the IR one do the same for the CD, so if the broken DVD that you get is still reading/writing the DVD, but not the CD, is ok, but if it's the opposite, it don't worth the effort, cause in that case, usually the red diode is already dead .....

No problem, glad to help!

Experimenting with some IRs is a good way to familiarise yourself with such tiny and sensitive electronic components, and helps keep the body count of real valuable diodes low.

Nice work, looking forward to seeing much of your builds in future!
