Default Preparing to build with S4X housing

From about 2 weeks of scouring the internet I wound up here. I was looking for a good host or housing. From what I've seen this is what I want:
S4X? Host Assembly

I don't like the cone tip and hoping it's optional

Still debating wavelength. I will probably go with a blue or green for my first build.

Any recommendations for highest wattage laser diode I could go with that batteries for this could power?
I should only need an assembled laser module w/diode and lens for this right? No switch?

Will probably buy my diode from DTR
Looking at the NDB7875 445nm 9mm Diode
In 12mm Copper Module
W/2.4A X-Drive

Extremely excited about preparing to build!
*reminder to self purchase new anti static wrist strap

Welcome to the forum, you might want to go to the Welcome section and introduce your. Just a thought?

Anyways the s4x is a great host. It can handle any diode you like to use. The 7875 is a one heck of s bright diode, your going to love the beam it throws. Switch comes with the host. If you buy the driver from DTR just get the blank contact board from Survival. There's a build tutorial at the bottom of the page of the International site that you might want to take a look at. Best wishes with your first build. Post some pics if your can.

Edit; I see your post in the welcome section. A day late and a dollar short, my life's story.

Nice choice on that NDB7875 diode
I would think that's the perfect match for that hefty host

I went with the NUBM44 450nm Diode In 12mm Copper Module W/Leads instead and G2 lens. That I know is 6w. I got ripped off once buying a pre assembled laser pointer sold as 1w but quickly realized it was a 5mw. Thanks bob I downloaded the tutorial. Info is so scattered that was a big help. I would like some way I can adjust it to a extremely narrow beam or more short with burning capabilities like a light sabre. I live in South Arkansas and lots of mosquito here. So I just yank my sabre out and hack the little bastards up. From all research I need some type of a beam expander add on to get the sabre effect

I wish there was more progress on the 510 ecig mods with variable volts/variable watts. It would be cool to have if you had a laser diode with like 80w max and could drop it back down 5mw so your aiming it across your 6 acres of land at peak 80w and then switch to 5mw aiming at up at star constellations.

youll also need the half back on your module when you make your purchase. if you inform dtr that youre using the s4x he'll fix you right up. the 7875 is a great diode with probably the best divergence out of the higher power blues. the g2 is great for burning but i'd also order a 3 element lens for beam quality

You made a rookie mistake going with the NUBM44 over the NDB7875. Without corrective optics that are not easily accomplished on a first build, your 6+ watt laser will look more like a flashlight than a beam. The NDB7875 is not only fairly inexpensive, but makes a nice 3 watt beam with a single element lens alone. Why is it that the new guys always go for the most power without ever questioning the divergence of the beam?

Said well.
Hefty host and all still I don't think it's big enough for the NUM44 and you have to consider the "somewhat" small 18650 battery's. The duty cycle will be over before you even have a chance to "kill" a mosquito
On top of the horrible beam spec's like Paul said you will not enjoy the run time enough to feel that light saber enjoyment??
3 W's is no joke and the SX4 host is probably perfect for this diode. You should really think about this, as you might see you made a little mistake when its to late.
Just food for thought

The 44 will diffidently burn better than the 7875 but your beam quality will suffer. The 7875 makes a nice tight beam in comparison to the 44, with whatever lens you choose. Still not a bad burner,(the 7875) but the sheer power of the 44 can't be beat. Either way their both great diodes.

80 watt, variable input? I'm right next to you dreaming the dream. (problem is we have to wake up) but we can dream!

I'm thinking killing mosquitos with a laser is just not to realistic. You need to be oh so careful to not blind somebody a 1/4 mile away. Which is possible with high power diodes. Be more than careful. Thanks This laser your trying to build is not a joke. Can do serious damage, unrepairable, instantaneously. Please read up on the dangers of high powered lasers before you attempt a build. Eyes don't grow back. Enjoy and be safe.

Hi,
Every one here is correct the 44 needs power as in larger cells and also a massive heat sink. The 9mm/ 3W diode is perfect for the SX4 host. But if you ever want to upgrade to a great 44 host well .some pics pal..

Yes, The NUBM44 also pulls 25 watts..... 18 watts being waste heat. An 18650 will discharge in no time at all. In addition to cylindrical lenses to correct the huge emitter divergence without which the beam diverges rapidly, there is need for a large heat sink to pull all that waste heat away from your diode. Look at what Lifetime17 has to offer if you are dead set on building this right now.

Default Re: Preparing to build with S4X housing

Ok think I got everything I need ordered.
6W+ NUBM44 450nm Laser Diode
NUBM44 450nm Diode
In 12mm Copper Module
W/Leads
I got g2 lens and half length on the back half.

From Survival:

*S4X™ Host Assembly/drilled aluminum driver pill
*Extended Length Focusing Ring - Blue Anodized
*Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive 5 gram
*External Lens Spring
*Driver Heat Sink Pill & Brass Ring
*Wire and Heat Shrink Kit
*Extended and Tapered Copper Heat Sink
*Blank Battery Contact Board

A flashlight you say? The tutorial recommended that diode?
I will post pics later. I will probably mod the power switch later to use a key to turn it on/off

If you took the top part off the sd303's they looked like a flashlight too because the top part contained the focusing ring.

Yeah I realized after I had ordered the laser module from dtr that I had added the g2. So I don't know if it is encased into the assembly or what? If it's like the extended from survival store then I will have extras. I plan on building a red, green and blue so it will get used.

I will keep that in mind lifetime.
P.s. the mosquito stuff was a joke lol
But reminds me I think they use a g2 lens on the chinese sd303's my bet is the green one I had was only 5mw but running off an 18650 battery with the g2 lens that thing was actually hitting about a mile range.

Sounds like your in good shape, the thermo compound adhesive is to adhere the driver to the shelf on the driver pill. Your still going to need thermo paste to use in the 12mm module before you insert in in the heat sink.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/181829436194

Other than that your looking pretty good. Enjoy and post some pics when you've finish your build. Best wishes.

Ps, don't use the adhesive on the 12mm you will never be able to get the module back out if you ever need/want to change the diode.

Also, the g2 that you ordered from dtr will fit the extended heat sink just fine. G2 a good lens. Your in good shape.

Glad the mosquito thing was just a joke.

Bradford, I'm a bit confused about what your asking of the G2 from the module from Dtr?, unless BobM answered your question..
As for the 301 and 303's they come with a acrylic lens. No way for $10 it would use a G2 nor is it needed. They are rated at 5mw but most likely just about all of them run from 40mw to 80mw..Way over spec and dangerous..
Enjoy your build
Everybody want's the mosquito killing laser but it just doesn't work like we want
