Is it possible to mod my laser to take AAs instead

I have a modded didla that accepts CR2 batteries only. Battery type RCR2 the 3.6 volt version is what is needed which is not commonly sold. Interesting build though as it's a blu-ray. It needs more more voltage which got me thinking.

I'm wondering if it's possible to force it to use AA batteries instead of CR2s. I know there has to be some method to modify it. I've read of one that was a bit too cumbersome.

I would use The 3.7 volt AA batteries I have instead of the CR2 type. It would make the second AA stick out of the host about an inch but that's a non-issue. I'm curious if there is a way to modify it to do this. Any suggestions?

I don't feel like waiting for shipping from china.  ;D Anyone know of a US supplier of RCR2s? Actually I'm still waiting to hear from O-like guess these are rare batteries.

Besides that I'm interested in general on how electronics work so I'm still curious how it's done. Maybe I should have put this in the mod/experiment sub-forum though now that I think about it.

Thanks, and I see he has the batteries I need too! I have a universal charger so that works.

I'm still curious about the modding though. What makes the dilda host only accept cr2s anyway? AAs fit why not accept them? Same with other devices. I'd still like to know how to modify it. That could come in handy later on.

An extension might not be a bad idea though if it was safe to run at 11 volts I could really get extra power with 1 more cr2.

Anyway, I already have the good batteries coming in a few days. I'm just curiously mainly, why exactly do certain battery types of the same size not work in devices? I've seen one person's red 5mw laser pointer modified to run on D batteries and it was overly complex.

It's just a matter of fitment. Most batteries are all the same voltage and will work in anything as long as they fit.

All alkalines are 1.5V

Li-ion's are 3.6V

Lithium primaries 3v

etc etc

As long as the batteries use the same method of creating voltage/current, there is no difference other than size and capacity.

I did the modification. I cut the head off of a maglight and used that as my extension, since the dilda is the same size. I had to use a piece of foil on the driver spring to get the laser to accept CR2s and togeather AAs. Works fine, not a professional method but it worked and roughly increased power by 35% to 40% with the extra batteries.

Now I'd like to know if there a better way to do this than using a piece of foil? Say I want this laser to accept only AAs. I wonder how that is accomplished?

Best part is I learned how to make extensions. I was in a hurry so I used a broken mini maglight but I could have found light metal to my exact size specifications at home depot. A little hacksaw work and I'd be have my perfect size extension. Now I just need a tool to thread metal.
