I ordered this one last week.

It happen to be one of the kits Morgan linked to, and looks like a great beginner's set to me.

It is a nice little kit. And as a bonus, Jon from Odicforce is delight to deal with

Well, why don't you jump up and down about it? What I read in the OP is that he didn't want to have a bunch of stuff shipped, and that he wanted to learn how to do things himself. Maybe "do all of this myself" means different things to different people. Maybe he wants something he can just assemble. I thought he wanted to get some components for a few dollars and build from scratch. In such a build, the heat sink would be the most expensive part to buy or would require special tools to make. I offered an off the shelf alternative that he could pick up for a couple bucks from any hardware store. Not sure why that would get you all worked up.

Your review link doesn't work.

Also, you're on my list.

I think you misinterpretted the original post. The highlighted line is correct. Others seem to agree. I might consider re-reading it if I were you.

Your, "List", as you put it means nothing to me but it's probably not wise to be bandying about that sort of comment here.

[EDIT: Links in my posts fixed]

@ Rob - Thanks and I agree, Jon is a pleasure to deal with!

@ Toke - You'll like your kit. You'll learn all the basic and essential skills. It is entry level so you can't expect perfection but it will spur you on in search of it!

I agree^^^ w/Morgan too. :thanks: I emailed Odic last year about this host kit- Jon replied fast and said they can accomadate me if I wanted to get a large order to re-sell and that there was a price drop coming soon. He did not have to tell me that, but it was very nice of him to give me a heads -up. The red diodes from sleds are at an all-time low, this kit sounds ideal for the OP. A nice burning red can be had for under 40$ plus the warm fuzzy feeling you can only get by DIY.:yh:

Morgan you are on MY list-:tsk: expect a Christmas card from me this year!!

Hey Hak, nice song quote in your sig. Dangit! Why didn't I think of that one!

Incidentally, back on topic for a second, Jon will now supply these pre-built but the fun is in the making IMO.

All this is not true. You can make a DDL driver and use washers as a heatsink - that's how beginner's used to start. Also, I found a cheap keychain host where you don't need a driver and you don't need a heatsink. Just find a 3x AG13 host, and you can hook up a red diode w/o a driver. And, forget a heatsink - it's your first build, use either washers you can drill out and grind down to size, or else just glue it in place. The aixiz module itself should be enough heatsinking for you to use it for burning or viewing - just don't run several minutes in a row (besides, batteries will drain fast - but they're cheap to replace if you get the batteries from a dollar store or DX)

And as for the diode, it's cheaper to buy from someone on here rather than getting a DVD burner. Like, DVD burners are worth more than $5-$10, which is how much you may get the diode here.

Sorry, guys. Forgot about this thread. Morgan is right. I was looking to buy a kit with all the individual components in one complete package so that I could learn to assemble a laser myself.

Thank you for the link, Morgan. I will definitely (try to) buy that 100mW green kit. I'm not sure if I can, as I'm in the US and the company is in the UK, but I'll try.

Does anyone know what battery type it will use? Also, I don't see a module on the picture of all the parts. Does it not include one?

Yea, I think this forum needs some more complete newbie kits too (<$75). Something that includes the host, driver, heatsink, diode, etc. all in one, without asking you "if you need this, here it is! Or you could upgrade to this! Or this!" Something straight forward, with simple directions also.

For example: 100mW Red Laser Kit: $40.00 - Includes EVERYTHING you need (besides soldering equipment)!

Thanks very much
well
Those that you listed are the only complete kits i know of. If you're willing to wait you can get all the parts separately quite easily, I know that rayfoss sells a nice torch host, and just about everything else you'd need would probably be found at o-like.

My Odicforce order have arrived. (7 days from England, ok.)
A 100mW focusing laser kit.
5mW module two pack.
5mW focusing module.
All looks fine, with a instruction sheet for each item.
(And yes, holding the module wires to a 4,5V power supply gives a red dot.) :D

I will start looking through moving crates tomorrow for my solder station. :)

I don't think anyone here wants be possibly liable for selling complete kits.
