I seen all these tutorials on taking a pcb puck out of a 9 led flashlight and turning it in to a decent driver for a laser diode my question is this bull or can it be done and if so can some one show me a set of pics on how to do it

All the 9 LED flashlights that I have seen (cheap little $2-$3, running 3 AAA batt.s) don't have drivers. They just series-parallel the diodes,,, ,,, So, NO.

Sooo Looong ago when we were harvesting RED's, I took
a chance and made one of these flashlights direct drive -
No driver circuit. It relies on battery internal impedance
to limit the current. I held my breath first time I hit the
button!!!! It still outputs 105 mW of RED after many years!!!
We were in hog heaven back then with that power. It could
POP a balloon. Our first watt meters !!!!

I do recommend using a driver to protect the LD and keep
constant output.
