1. Tripod is a must
2. timer is much better than instant-press (= camera shake)
3. It really helps to have a camera that lets you adjust EV (Exposure Value). That way, if the camera is exposing based on the wrong subject, you can compensate in one direction or another.
So.... I second the motion... for BEAM SHOTS!!!
