Wait, so this is still the same "12X" drive that has the anti vibration technology in it?

But is still without a beam circularizer?

I don't know from anti vibration technology.

It is the Pioneer 12X. It does NOT have the corrector. Someone suggested that the increase in speed was from the anti vibration system. They wanted to examine one. I have one "intact" now.

Peace,
dave

So that's like what, over $100 CN a lens!!!!!!
As for high quantity, I'm thinking 10-20 ROFL. They're prolly thinking 1000+

Guess I'll leave the laser rifle till later lol

If you're interested in coupling a laser diode into a fiber, LightPath's catalog will give you some ideas on how it's done.

They have special colimators with sockets for fibers and a module attachment on the other end.
They even figured out some new ways of coupling the output which results in lower losses.

Only problem is, once you get excited enough to ask for a price, the answer will kill your excitement almost instantly...

They want 68€ for a single lens! Never mind an assembly...
They do give quantity discount, but for them, quantity has a different meaning, than for us..

I just pulled my second 12X for testing. The diode is still in the heat sink. I will remove it in a less destructive manner. "Squeeze-squeeze" certainly works. It is just not as fast as "snip-snip." ;)

The first 12X (and another LG8X) sled is already on its way to you. I can put this little heat sink into a regular envelope. However, did you want the second 12X sled as well? That would require a "package." Also, it is still in the drive. It is simple to harvest the diodes from these last two Pioneer drives without even removing the sled from the drive.

Squeeze-squeeze is not fast? I really should make a video. Squeeze-squeeze takes three seconds per diode!

But then again, if you are used to Snip-snip, i guess it really is faster for you...

In any case, i have a Pioneer 8x sled here...

You just informed me that you already sent a Pioneer 12x sled to me... All i need now is the non-destroyed heatsink, to put a diode in, reinsert the heatsink into the sled, and test sled efficiency using the same diode first in one sled and then in the other...

I'm hoping the heatsink will make alignment easier. Otherwise, the results of the comparison could be quite meaningless..

I don't need a second 12x sled tho....

Dave, the most helpful thing now would be a good plot. Of both diodes.. Doesn't even have to go high, since their power increases linearly anyway.. But you really do need a driver that could go lower in current than 58mA..

You could remove a resistor and pot from that driver, and wire a big pot with a large knob in their place...

Or, you know what... Just take a photo of the driver you are using, showing the resistors, and tell me the value of the pot, and i'll tell you what to change, so you can actually check Ith...

I have a feeling that all it will take is removing a resistor in parallel with your pot, and you'll suddenly be able to go lower and measure Ith (but it won't go as high as before anymore, until you replace the parallel resistor again)....

I'll get the undamaged heat sink off to you this week.

I'm using a stock Rkcstr driver

Hmm..

Look at page 7 there... If you cut the trace called "SET" you can go down to 30mA..

You can always get it back to normal by putting a blob of solder across (or a short piece of wire), just don't forget that once you put it into high range it's suddenly at a much higher current and has to be set again on a dummy....

If you can start at 30mA, you should be able to find the threshold current, with most diodes it starts at 33, but we are hoping this one is different.... It could show in Ith, altho it's not for sure...

6x's and 8x's have it very close together, even tho they are clearly not the same.

I'm most interested into where the efficience of this second one will fall..

I'll give it a shot.

It didn't even dawn on me that 30mA might be low enough :p

I just knew that I didn't have anything that would get me down to zero.

So what's going on? Did you test the second diode? Is it confirmed that the 8x and 12x are different?

Also, you guys that have been here longer than me, how fast do you think the price will drop? Is it realistic that in a year from now the 8x or even 12x will be priced like $50 or lower?

dont think they will drop that fast.. have a look what BR burners were new one year ago, and see how cheap they are now? i dont think you will get 2x BR for 50$ now. you probably simply wont get it at all.. ;-)

You do realize that you could buy one of these and do it yourself, right?

So far, I have $500 and about four hours effort invested into this. How about you? Corret me if I am wrong, but I don't remember getting a check from you lately. So far all I have gotten from you is the demonstrated ability to question my veracity.

Yeah. I'm a bit churlish. I've been inundated by inquiries and research requests to deal with all of this Tyler crap.

If you want to be part of the experiment, buy some stuff and become part of it. If you want others to do the work for you, you wait.

Right now the 8x singes the hair on my arm. I wonder if the 12x can be used to shave :can:

Just singes? My 160mW PHR singes my arm hairs, I'd think an 8x would

I was hoping that the 12x on a wider focus would burn like an 8x over a larger area. Jayrobs 405g1 lens makes a nice oval shape perfect for shaving. Now that would be cool.

Daguin, how much power have you gotten out the 12X diode so far?

It would be interesting to get a sum up (may be at every 10 pages).

Jeez, I was just asking a question. I don't have either the money or experience to buy and test one.

It is a simple fact of life. If you don't have the money you must have the patience.

I post what I know when I know it.

Asking "Are we there yet?" doesn't make the car go faster ;)

Peace,
