i made a driver for a br and i have a 100 ohm resistor for a dummy load and i set my meter to 200m and its reading 36.9 i think thats ma.and i measured it in voilts which is 3.63 and i used a 47 uf 16v cap and a lm317,diode,33ohm resistor just woundering if i have it write ?

Set your meter to 200 mV not mA. You want to measure volts across that resistor. to measure amps using the setting you are using, you would need to break the circuit and put your meter inline. Hope that helps.

Jake,
desslok is correct, you need to put your meter in series with the load to measure current. I know you did it right when you PM'ed me saying you got 3.65 volts across the diode. So your driver is ok. But measuring current in parallel with the load can damage your meter.

ok on my meter i moved it to where it say 9v batt but one to the left 200 v with a swirl on top and it reads 15.3 with out a dummy load and 07.7 with the 100 ohm dummy load but is that where the meter is exposed to be ?

this is how i have it now i have my meter set at 9v batt on my meter and its reading 3.66 voilts

No Jake, I think that is for testing 9 volt batteries.

The voltage scale is on the left side of your meter. Set the switch on 20 and report back with your reading.

jake21 can you forward me those details. im trying to figure out my multimeter and driver also. im doing alot wrong cause my reading is .02

thanks, i played around with it more last night and i used a 47k Ohm resistor instead of 100 Ohm cause  all i have are 33, 47k, and 10's.  so i used  the 47k asa dummy and i got 7.25mV i did the math and it came out to be something like .000158A  isnt that 158mA? im testing DDLs driver with a 9V for BR

As suggested in most threads, use the 100 ohm as the dummy load. Then with your meter set to DC volts. The one with a line and some dots above it (NOT the ~), at the lowest setting. You will usually have one something like ..
-- 20V Use that one. then you can take your reading and divide by 100 if you are using the 100 ohm and the 100ohm resistor replicates the actual load of a Blu-ray pretty well.
