Nova X-105 with dirty/scratched lens, what to do?

From the start I've been having problems with my X-105. The first time I turned it on the dot was all speckly. They adviced me to clean the lens, and so I did. It helped for a while (never perfectly, it always remains slightly speckly), but the problem came back. Now when I clean my lens, it keeps speckly, and theres an 'X' trough the dot. Upon inspection it seems that I've scratched my lens.

I'm tired of these problems, and I need help on what to do next.

Should I send it back to Nova Lasers (no warranty, so have to pay for it) or try and put in a new lens myself?

I'm a laser n00b. So if it is a good idea to put in a new lens myself, I need instructions how to put in a new lens, and to know where I can buy a new lens.

Also, if there is another option, please let me know. I would also like to know what the best way is to clean a lens. I've tried lens-pens, cuetips with alcohol and microfiber cloths but nothing seems to work for me.

You could try switching the lens, RA_pierce did this successfully, but it is kinda risky.

Yeah, it looks like you need a new lens...
You can send it in to NOVA for a $40 lens replacement or you can do what I did...
I took apart a busted digital camera and used the lens from that to replace it.
It's not too hard but it does require some patience.

If you do it yourself, use an AR coated lens (I used a Zeiss lens).
