Newwish blu-ray

So I ordered a pen style blu-ray kit from potatorage...everything was packaged very nicely and it was organized...he also included a bunch of stuff to burn...so I solder everything and turn it on and nothing happens...I short the capicitor and realize I messed up the positive/case pin wires .... I resoldered them in their proper places, turn it on and nothing happens STILL...I can't even see if the diode is burnt out....and ideas/suggestions/thoughts? Also the case pin got ripped off so I made a new connection like andy_con does it....
