Default Need to identify a host

Hello all,

Firstly, just a disclaimer, I know very little about building a laser but I browsed this forum for a bit last year before purchasing a laser.

I ended up purchasing a "2W Ultra Powerful Blue laser pointer Burning laser" from lucklaser.com (The one that is advertised as an announcement on these forums).

Anyways, I recently took it on a camping trip and inadvertently powered on the laser while it had some type of debris sitting on the lens at the front (sand, dirt, or something like that). Now whatever that stuff was is melted onto the lens, totally ruining and distorting the laser beam.

I need to find out what I can search online to find the body of the laser so I can order a replacement, the lens piece of the entire thing unscrews separately from it but I doubt I would be able to find it by itself.

I contacted the support staff from lucklaser with a description and pictures of what I was looking for but they insist the diode itself is damaged and needs to be professionally fixed or replaced (at a pretty good discount, too bad I'm short on funds at the moment).

Here are the images (pardon the messy desk..) :

The whole laser put together:

Different pieces unscrewed:

Close view of the lens:

Any help at all would definitely be appreciated! The whole thing its self is an inch in diameter, so if you know about a suitable replacement "lens piece" that could be useful too.

Thanks.

If you seared some dust or dirt on the lens I highly doubt there's anything wrong with your diode, unless of course the lens mounting is poorly installed that allows tiny amounts of dirt/dust inside the head of the laser. In your last picture you can remove the lens from that mount & replace it, you'd need to identify it of course but I'm guessing its a 3E - which is roughly a $10 replacement. If you get a 3-element lens ($8.60) and replace yours in that module - your problem should be solved

Aha! I did not realize that it screwed right out. But I suppose that makes perfect sense.

Looks like your link (or website) was broken. Did a quick search and found this lens. My trusty first grade ruler puts the length of the lens at about 7mm. Will I have problems using this 10mm lens?

It looks like an M9 or M10 thread. If it's an M9 then you can just drop in an AixiZ acrylic lens or one of the lenses from DTR's site.

However these China lasers sometimes use M10 for the lens holder, and I strongly suspect your lens carrier is an M10 – notice how part of the lens carrier extends past the end of your ruler, and that the lens carrier is right on the 9mm line. That looks like M10, i.e. 10mm. The lenses on AixiZ and DTR are M9 and will not fit.

Chances are you will need to remove the lens from the holder and replace it with a new one. You will need to carefully measure the lens diameter (the total diameter, not merely the clear aperture) and then find a replacement on ebay or similar. If it's a 6mm lens, you can carefully cut away the plastic housing of an AixiZ acrylic lens, and install the lens into the lens holder.

Marco,

I took another measurement of the lens with a ruler that was in better shape. I triple checked that I was measuring from beginning to end, without the lens sitting on top of any of the lines and it is definetly 9mm wide. The lens itself (at least the visible portion) is 4mm, and the whole thing is 7mm front to back.

Digging around the LuckLaser.com site, I found a link to CivilLaser, which seems to be a sister site (same looking website layout and engrish grammar), and I found this lens for sale.

The picture of this particular lens is very, very similar looking to the one that I currently have, only 2mm longer:

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the size of lens they use for their builds. I'm not too sure about the difference in quality between this 3USD lens and the other AixiZ Acrylic lens; I would not mind spending a few dollars more if the quality makes any difference on the focusing ability of the beam. Any further suggestions?

Thanks to you both for the help!

If you're sure the threads are 9mm in diameter, might as well order an M9 lens barrel and give it ago. At worst you're out a few dollars, and you can always use the lens for a future project.
