I want to build my own lasers but need help on what i need. First of all, what items do i need to build a laser? I know a diode a case, a heat-sink, but what else? Also, what kinds of things do i need to know before i start to build them? any link to this information would be very much appreciated.

judging from your rep and your question, id say you have no idea how lasers work. buy a cheap 20-30mw one first, then ask this question

EDIT: sorry, bit harsh, not enough coffee today. if you want to build, then attempt a labby style in a box first. get a ghostdrive from lazorlabs, a red diode in module from hightechdealz, wire from ebay, everything else from ebay, find a finned heatink on ebay iswell, do a lot of reading, and then begin the build.should end up with a nice powerfull labby

Thanks anyway. And yes, Daawood, my knowledge of how a laser works is this--- the light comes out when the button is pressed--- and that's it.

loooool, yep, that is some low knowledge. like i said, get a diy build from somewhere, all the components togetehr, all you need. much easier than attemting your own

then like i said before, a labby is your best bet. visit lazorlabs, hightechdealz and ebay to get the parts needed, and scavenge a sturdy box from somwhere.

I was looking around and are going to try to convince my mother or father if i can get a survival lasers kit. im looking at this DIY 1,150mW 445nm Laser Host Assembly and this DIY 445nm Diode, Module and Lens But im not entirely sure if that would be all i need, or the right combination. Also if soldering is needed. I already read the link Blord posted and everything seems simple enough. I don't care what color, but a low power, my mother thinks when i try to build it, it will exsplode and kill me.

hmm, there is no way the it will explode, unless you do something stupid with the batteries.
show her this post if she doesnt belive you, it will not explode.
and that is probaly the best kit combo for you, however, going for a 1w+ build as a first build is a little OTT, so maybe try looking for a 200-300mw red diode.

i will try to look, but the diode was linked to by the host page, and i dont quite know if i would be getting the right one. Also price is a big consurn and for $110 i might have to find a job somewhere.

like i said, find a red diode, dont just look on survival lasers, check hightechdealz, cajunlasers.and modwerx, although bear in mind their closing on june 31 .
red diodes are just much much cheaper
