Default Need Help - ID this Galvo controller & connections..

Hi gang! Hoping I've got this posted in the right forum, and that I can tap some of the considerable domain knowledge the community here seems to have.

I was helping a friend of mine clean out his workshop area, and discovered a set of X/Y galvos and controller that was obviously salvaged from something.

He wasn't sure where it'd even come from, and let me have it.

I got it home, powered it up with my benchtop supply @ 5V, and pointed a simple green laser at it, and it seems to be working just fine. There's obviously a set of pre-programmed animation sequences in there. Standard loops, circles, spirals, a picture of a jet airplane, the words "Viva Mexico!", and a short animation of Psy doing "Gangam Style".

I'm assuming this came out of a projector unit that was in a bar, or club.

What i'd like to do, is figure out how to control this thing. It did come with (attached to a ribbon cable) what looks to be the "standard" ILDA-DB25 connector (oddly, it has both a male and female connector). However there are 3 unpopulated 2-pin sockets on the board, of which I suspect may be triggers for diode control, a bank of DIP switches (10 of them), and a combination electret microphone and pot/variable resistor.

I'm wondering if anyone here in the community has any idea of the make/model of this thing, pointers on how to control it, etc, etc.

There's really not much, in the way of markings on the PCBs. The only thing of note are the DB29 PCBs connectors are labeled with the following:
Code:
PES-ILDA-DB25F.PCB 2011-10-22
PES-ILDA-AD2.0 PCB
The Lower board, with the bank of trim pots, is labeled:
Left side:
Code:
IES-Scaner-30M.PCB
Right Side:
Code:
TL2009-09-08
While I'm not an electronics newb, I AM a laser newb, and know next to nothing about this stuff. So any help/tips/pointers would be appreciated! If anyone has any pointers on manufacturer, or where I could find a manual, or even what any of these unknown connectors are for, that kind of thing would be a great help!

Pictures:

Top board with all the "connectors", mounts on the lower one and is connected via 4 banks of "pins" to the lower board.

The lower board looks to be primarily PSU (I'm assuming those are big snubber/filtering caps), and the trimpots.

The full "set" of boards, plus the Galvos themselves.

Thanks in advance for any pointers/tips!

Do you speak Mandrin? You may need it to solve this one.

Haha.. No, I don't. But I'm thinking you're probably right.

Even my preliminary digging around, looking at the chips there on the board.. the main MCU, the STC11F60XE -(an 8051 knockoff) - was in Chineese! -- though it does look like the single-row 4 pin header is the programming port.

It might help, if I actually knew anything about these things.

Is there an easy to understand FAQ about getting a Galvo and the ILDA board hooked up anywhere? Or a quick primer.. I'm looking at X/Y signals, Diode TTL, blanking, etc.. if I actually knew what the heck all that meant, and how - say it would normally be hooked up..

If you were testing a show board that you picked up, or troubleshooting a projector rescued from a *****ter behind a nightclub, how would you go about doing it?

Ah! seems these may be a "SunKoo Reid CX25K" .. atleast, according to the pictures attached to this (ancient) thread over on photonlexicon.. from 2010 even.. yikes..

Specs for cheap and cheerful GoldenStarLaser galvos

Does that help?
