My Tiny Green Giant (505nm) Copper Build with Beam Shot

Thought I'd document the 'follow-on' build of the first of my varnished copper 510 hosts.
This one's got the new 35mW Sharp 505nm module from DTR.

First all the parts ready to assemble.

The set screw (on top) for the negative wire to case.
I drilled a side hole (as Jeff, Bowtie) suggested in one of his build threads.
This makes it easier to ground the negative to the body.

and screw down firmly.

Applying a liberal amount of Nano Diamond Thermal Compound to the module.
Note the clear tape around the G2 lens to protect it from the compound and to make it easy to handle.

All ready now to pinch the positive wire into place using the centre pin of the adaptor.
Next time I'll try soldering it onto the pin before pushing it into place like Jeff does.

and now fully assembled and the copper focus ring put in place around the lens securely.

Bingo, whack on the battery vape with one 18650 Nitecore and she's-a-blaz'n....

35000µW of 505nm goodness !!

Great photos, Andrew. So you stuck to the suggested power output of 35 mW? Did you measure it or are you guessing? How long was your exposure to get that beam shot? Thanks for sharing it here. :D
 
Just curious, but couldn't you ground the module/host by attaching to the case pin on the diode? It's just sitting they serving no purpose at all while everyone is using all manner of grounding methods. Maybe I'm missing something here.

Yeh just bought the stock module from Jordan straight off the site.
Didn't ask for any mods on the driver so I'm guessing it's 35mW and 505nm.
I'll pull out one of my LaserBee LPMs and test it but I can't spetro it as I don't have a S.Scope.
The photo was a single 30 sec exposure on my iPhone.

Not much of a beam shot though........
True, I agree, this was basically just to show the WL and nice beam size.

Probably Paul but I haven't mucked around with that yet, never opened the module case to see.

That could be solved I believe by using a lens with a wider diameter. P.S. I'm always puzzled why the first of lens choice begins with the letter G. There are many companies that make this type of lens which I think is an aspheric known commercially as a Best Form lens. Try a wide diameter short focal length plano-convex lens as an alternative.

Could you link to something you'd recommend, still a noob I'm afraid mate.

I wonder if the reason I don't have it when using an acrylic lens is because they aren't AR coated at all. I think Zack (Zraffleticket) said he got it a little with his acrylic lens, but I don't see any at all with mine.
 
A set screw to get the negative lead on the host.... That's a pretty good idea. Like the build :beer:
