If you want to run a 405nm diode in it, get a Groove2 or a Rkcstr driver.

You can run a 405nm or a 445nm diode in it. Your not going to get 1.3W out of it, but it will power up to 12X 405nm diodes at up to ~400mW and 445nm diodes up to about 500mW

I am in the middle of rebuilding an old-style Dilda with a Groove2 and a 445nm diode. Right now it is putting out ~600mW, but I will probably have to turn it down. If you run the Groove2 as high as it can go, it overheats and begins to blink. It will probably end up between 400mW-500mW.

Peace,
dave

The Groove2 will go higher, but it has a tendency to overheat at the higher current. Either will work

The red diode in the Dilda and the 445nm diodes are both 5.6mm cans.

You will need ALL of the length of the pins from the 445nm. The diode in the Dilda is set very deeply

If you build a 405nm, you may have to add some length to the diode pins or wire the driver to the diode

Peace,
dave

The lens in the Dilda is AR coated for red light. It REFLECTS blue light! It will significantly reduce the output.

You can get an AixiZ type 445nm glass lens now for $13 (or less). Several vendors carry them (AixiZ, RayFoss, O-Like, etc.)

Here is a link to Modwerx store. He is not the cheapest. However, he ships from inside the US and he ships very quickly
AR coated glass lens for 405-445nm [M0004] - $12.99 : Modwerx Shop

Yep. The lens just unscrews from the tip. The new one will screw right back in its place

I finished this one last night. It is putting out 570mW.

It burns for 90 seconds with no problems. After that the host begins to feel warm.

The Dilda is NOT very large or substantial. It heats up quickly

Peace,
dave

If you can get your hands on a LPC-826 diode, they work great for replacing a dead diode in the dilda. I learned this first-hand by shining it into sled optics and killing it w/ a reflection. It's long leads are perfect for the job. It's a LOC instead of the the original closed can type, but works great. Putting out 209mw w/ the original linear driver. It would probably put out more, I haven't tried to adjust the pot on the driver since I got my LPM.
