I know there is a topic about moding the mini pocket types but I am unsure about the kind I want to modify.

I want to replace the red laser in one of these

for a blue ray laser. Thing is, how can I power the laser? will I have to add another driver somehow or can I use the one that was driving the red baring in mind the unit can be switched from battery to mains power.

This looks like a pretty standard laser crab. The driver in it is for the 5mW red diode. This driver will not be compatible with bluray. Yes, you will need to provide your bluray with a proper driver in order to do this mod.
The ebay listing doesn't say the battery voltage, or even the voltage output of the included adapter. This makes it very hard to suggest a driver. You may be able to use a rkcstr or LM317 driver, if the unit runs on 9V or better. If it runs on 3V, 4.5V, or 6V, you may need to use a boost driver like lavadrive, or power the laser separately from the rest of the crab. Post some pics when you succeed with this project.
