DTR has good laser parts^ do a quick search on this forum for building a laser, there's tons of info on here (look below, there's a search bar)

There are too many options to go with. Do you want a "just add diode" build where you buy a pre-wired host and only have to solder two wires to get it working? Or would you rather buy each and every part seperate and make a custom build?
Also, what is your budget, what wavelength do you prefer and how much power do you want it to put out? These are some things we definitely need to know in order to give some good advice.

READ READ READ.. will be the best info we can give you at the moment. Take some notes on the power and wavelength you want.. the host you want and so on. Do you want this to be an assembly type build, or ground up build?
Also make sure you have protective glasses/goggles for the right power and wavelength.

Also do you have a PayPal account? Some sellers only take PayPal, if you need to pay by debit/cc then that would effect what stores I would recommend, some now also take Bitcoin.

Well i in fact am in the process of my first build. if you want something simple, you can get a diode in a module with driver and lens from DTR's laser shop and just add it to a host compatible with them. there is a huge selection of hosts here. i got mine from Blord, its a 501B flashlight host with copper heatsink, i asked him to install a contact board and leads so that all i have to do it put the module in the heat sink and connect a few wires and im done!.

You can't do too much with 40$ really. Also, this is not enough info to recommend you a laser. Read our posts again and answer some of our questions so we can be of better help.

Yea my first build had its up and downs... Mostly frustrating for the driver I was using had ttl and I didn't know that had to be powered as well. I rewired the thing about nine times till I figured that out. Then it was fun again! ha!
40$ wont get you much at all for a build. I just spent 115$ on just a host. Badass host though. My first build I used a Nintendo joystick!!!

Yeah a $40 build would be difficult, my cheapest build so far was $140 for the parts but it turned out to be worth it. Photos I didn't post in a build thread yet:

It's worth it if possible to save up enough money for a good quality build, if it takes you six months then let it take six months. I think for $40 you could do a good cheap red build in a plastic project box with a DIY driver if you buy the right parts from the right places.
Also just a charger, batteries and safety glasses come to about a minimum of $40.

Like we mentioned in your other thread OP, your best bet is a <5mW laser pointer that has already been assembled. $40 is not enough to progress very far in the laser world. You gotta pay to play

You could get an el cheapo pointer, and take it apart to see what's inside....as starting point.

eBay has some 1000000mw death rays you could get for 40$ I've heard that some of them could cut Godzilla in half and set the air on fire
