Ok, here we go, i hope i can get to the bottom this.

Trouble shooting replys wanted please!

Got Power Rock 200mw from o-like as replacement for other laser that shattered!

Laser dims after a 20 seconds of use even at full power with battery i bought from Larry DFW on here! Old Ultrafire battery i though may've been issue!

Beam & power just reduce dramaticaly after this 20 secs of continuous use or 10 secs on 5 off 10 secs on 5 off!

Could the 1 time i put battery in wrong way & turned laser on have caused this?, it was like a milli-second!?

Thanks

Unfortunately yes, and that is the reason.

Chinese lasers typically do not have reverse polarity protection, so all it takes is a millisecond. You damaged the module. It's happened to many people on here :(

oh bugger & that was the replacement for the one that failed & o-like were good enough to send me.

once i got my battery fully charged from Larry, it didn't seem to happen for a while which made me think it was the old UltraFire battery!

I've been using the laser a lot lately without recharging, i'm hoping the charge has gone down & it just needs a good charge! :yabbem:

Well, certainly see if the battery is charged... a multimeter comes in handy for that... but if it's not the battery, the module is most likely damaged.

I have a green pointer that does more or less what you describe when the juice in the batts gets too low. It dims after few seconds, not 20ish, so it might be some other issue with yours. Make a full recharge and test it again to see if the problem persists

Hi all

Thanks

I emailed Susie at O-like & she says that their lasers have reverse polarity protection for minimal time.

I have fully charged the laser batter & it seems a lot brighter & burns better & up to now ok.
How much 'on time' should the laser work for with a full charge? Would it slowly fade over time or just stop.
It don't seem too long ago since i charged it last!

Thanks

I have a few green pointers and they behave like this:

Fully charged batts - working 100%
when the power of the batts gets lower it will dim and modehop
when there is too little power left it wont give out light at all.

Since its working as it should on fully charged batts I think your laser works as it should

First and foremost: figure out what is causing it to dim. Measure the current drawn from the batteries, and see if it actually drops when the laser dims. If this is the case, the batteries might be bad, or the driver is broken.

If the current stays constant, chances are the dimming is caused by temperature rise inside the module. If its properly heatsinked the pump diode will not heat up that quickly and the problem is likely the doubler crystal, which cannot be remedied.

If the driver is broken it is possible to replace it with a different driver, provided you can remove the current one from the diode (they usually come off quite easily after desoldering the pump diode pins.

Code:

So what you are telling us is that it works on a fully charged battery and then starts to behave different once the juice is spent in the batteries? Why even start this thread before charging your battery?
