DO NOT look into the aperture - Green laser light is typically produced by using a high power IR laser diode - the IR light is then converted into green - what you are seeing is light being emitted from the IR laser diode.

Impossible to say what's wrong with your laser, could be several things, but there's a chance that it's emitting lots of IR which could be harmful to your eyes. Even if that isn't the case - it's entirely possible that the laser could unexpectedly start working and then blind you. Never look into the aperture of a laser that still has the potential to turn on at any time.

If it was a cheap laser it's probably not worth fixing - I'd recommend buying a new one. May or may not be worth it if it was a high quality green - depends what the issue is - doubt it seeing as it died after a month.

If you want in that range, I might throw O-Like into consideration: Greens with some of their $40-50 range options. At that price, 520nm diode green is out (though at twice that price, you could get it and be better than 532nm). I would recommend a pre-built laser ordered from somewhere other than e-bay. Also, I second the DO NOT look into the apeture, and get some safety goggles before messing around with another one.

Those 303 lasers are cheap and can be found most anywhere. If you are looking to replace it with another, you might have a look at eBay, because they have the same lasers as other places that charge more for it. You should be able to find it for $10.00 or so, depending on who is selling them. But, keep in mind, this is a crap shoot as you might get a great one way over spec. or one that is not.
