So I found a nifty little "tool" for removing diodes from the DX housing and putting them in as well.  It's a 1/4" (actually about 4.41mm) outer diameter brass fitting for plumbing.  It's basically a small round tube about 3/4 inch (18mm) long with a flared opening on one side and round opening on the other and only requires grinding out <0.1mm from the inside to fit the head of a regular 5.6mm diode (inner diameter is ~3.55mm, ground to ~3.62).  I got it from Lowe's (a hardware store), came as a pack of two with two teflon things, cost $.92.  The brand was Watts, but I'm sure there are other manufacturers out there as it's a standard fitting for plumbing.

So the steps are:
1.  Find the diode you'd like to remove from the housing (ie DX module, Aixiz module).
2.  Take off the lens so you can see the "head" or output end of the diode
3.  Fit the "tool" over the head so that it is pushing against the copper base.
4.  Use a vise or other tool to press out the diode.

Make sure you put the back on the module or have enough room for the diode to pop out the back.

And you can use the same thing to press them in too, just putting it over the leads and press it in with a vise.  It worked great for me.

Also, I mainly came up with this so I could remove diodes that I think may be dead or want to replace but don't want to mutilate and destroy.  Hope it's helpful.
