Default Ipod Repair Anyone? SMD Soldering

While installing a new hard drive for my Ipod classic 6th gen 80gb, I broke off the little white and brown clip that hols the battery ribbon to the pins on the board. I was thinking If somone was good enough at soldering they could solder a wire to each little pin and then connect those directly to the battery ribbon cable. here is a picture of the 5 spots to be soldered. They are the pins in the corner with the white box around them. I can pay to ship it one way and pay for the service as well and return shipping if its alot.

Is there really no one out there who can do SMD soldering on something this small. I really need your guys's help with this, as I do not want to fork over $60 for a new logic board as I have already bought a new case, hard drive, and screen.

anyone such as myself that could do this:

a) would likely charge a bit, as this is what i would at least deem "pain in the a$$ low pri work"
b) would feel comfortable asking a fee that atm seems too much for your pocket
c) doesnt want to risk anything errors leaving one liable for your property.
d)is much too busy with 445's

i would typically be totally down to help you out but between work, the gigs and the laser hobby my time is packed, as i assume others is as well.

Question Re: Ipod Repair Anyone? SMD Soldering

If you still have the original connector, it can be probably re-soldered in place, but in your photo, i see one thing that make me think bad .....

This ..... is this pad of different color just for the light reflex, or the original copper pad is lost ? ..... if this pad is lost, and it was needed, there's probably nothing to do ..... not resoldering the original connector, and if there's no way for see where it was connected, also no way for re-wire it with wires .....

I thought about that too when I first saw it, but the copper pad doesn't appear to have any traces connected to it.

Not on this side ..... need to check that it had no "pass-through" contacts, too ..... not see it on that pic, but, you know, actually is possible to make them VERY small .....

I could soder that no problem but I've never had an Ipod before, besides there would be no way you could actually pay me for shipping or work...
Tried adding funds to Croatian paypal?

I've done a lot smaller things than that, it does not look to difficult, but what worries me - is that the only thing that's wrong?
What if you, by tearing it, destroyed some other components? I can see a big coil right next to it, if there is any sort of DCDC circuit there, and maybe some traces got severed under the anti-solder mask...

Too many unknowns. I could try but with no guarantee of success.

Also, HIMNL9, on your circled image, since I can also see no traces leading to it (vias and through hole maybe, but impossible to know), I could presume that was maybe a spot of glue holding the cable in place. Possible?

Uhm, it looks more a pad for solder a pin of a 5 pins connector ..... from position and size ..... also, the pic is not too clear, but it look there's a residual of tin in the right low corner part of the pad (a micro pass-trough hole ?) ..... i can be wrong, anyway, usually those pads for solder those types of connectors, are like 0,75mm x 1,5mm .....

I have bunch of old busted DVD drives, a lot of them have that similar "white box" as OP calls them, as a connector for ribbon cable.
Problem is finding the right one.

In any case, I can take a picture of how those look like so we can see how the pins are arranged, I exactly remember seeing 5 pin ones.

I've worked on many failpods, and they usually only have three wires for the battery connection.

The missing pad was probably just under the connector and never got used, but there still might be issues elsewhere. If you are in the United States, I would post an ad on Craigslist "looking for ipod repair," and someone will call you.

The solder was just taken off the pad If I new were to by a ribbon cable conecter that would be best as it would be easier for the person soldering it and there are no pass through wires that i know of. on the other side the pcd is coverd with other things so i know theres not a connection going through.

PCBs aren't always one layer. It is common for there to be more than 2 layers in a complex design. There may be a trace there which you can't see.

I could be able to solder that, but no guaranties. The missing pad worries me, but I have fixed that kind of damage before. I have no experience with Ipods what so ever.

I'm no iPod engineer or anything but I've done my fair share of iPod component replacement and mods... but here's what I think:

You may be able to just get away with just bending the battery ribbon to fit, and then holding the ribbon in place with a piece of electrical tape, because that is all the battery clasp that broke off does.

I can't really see from the picture, but if the wire contacts aren't broken off then this should be possible. If they're broken too, then you may just have to purchase a new logic board.
