This laser is short of 2 weeks old, and if I guesstimated actual total run time, I would say around only ~5 hours. The diode was a SF-AW superfreak set at 210ma, giving 220mw of power.

What happened....
I turned my laser on and started using it, everything was fine. I turned it off for 20secs(about) and when i tried to turn it back on it wouldnt turn back on. I switched out the batteries, recharged them, used new ones, tried them again, and it wouldnt do a darn thing. I put it away, and came back to it about an hour later. The laser was RUNNING, but with a very low output, very hard to even see the "dot". I tried multiple charged batteries and it continues to operate at this malfunctioning level.

When i "focus" the beam as well as I can on a piece of paper, It comes out a rectangle.

If anyone can help me further that would be much appreciated. I fear the diode has just degraded, but why would it "die" and then work again, but barely work. And with only ~5 hours runtime total? :wtf:

Please help. I would ask Igor but I cannot due to his current state :undecided:

Thanks.

It sounds like the diode's blown. Have you checked all of the connections? Anything loose? Anything look oxidized?

Re: Igor Blu-ray has stopped functioning.

This would happen to me...And Daguin Im not sure, I have only been in the laser hobby for just over a month now, and I have never picked up the nerve to build my own, or simply "open" a laser up and mingle with the features. Mechanically I am dim, I have only been obtaining knowledge about how lasers work, and the ability of lasers and how they operate. No hands-on stuff. I guess its good this happened before I sold it, which I was trying to do.

I was looking towards getting a 12x, since I can no longer sell it, do you know if its possible to have it shipped back, and the SF-AW replaced with a 12x diode for just the cost of the 12x drive? Plus gratuity for Igor for his time...

Only 16 years old and Ive lost already 500 some dollars due to such conspicuously horrible luck. (no the laser was not 500$, I am what you may call an "investor", and though besides the point, certain server hosting companies should never be dealt with.)

I have to go to bed...Im dead tired. Thanks for any help.
