I had these same questions! If you goto modwerx shop and goto the host kits there are links to everything you need at the bottome of the kit page. That is what got me understanding everything. You need 1) a diode 2) a module with focusing lense 3) a driver 4) a way to supply power 5) a host/heatsink to house all of your components.

Hope that kind of breaks it down for you... The host/ heatsink is the most expensive part... I haven't found a good kit for under 40 bucks.

Peace

Good answer, well done.

Speaking for myself Blu-Rays give me chills. I can see mine on low flying clouds. What other toy will let you write on clouds LOL?

I have used brass washers as heatsink media to the housing. Brass is easy to solder for conduction. I machined the washers in my lathe and they work real good.

Aluminum washers, and thermal glue work well. You defiantly want a heat sink with that.

Send a PM to lasersbee. He will send you 10 1ohm resistors as long as you cover shipping, which is $1 if you live in the US. In answer to your question, no. 1ohm is 1ohm and 1k ohms is 1,000 ohms. Also, did you say a "boob question"? I'm a self proclaimed boob expert! :D

I would have suggested radioshack. I guess any other electronics store. I'd just PM lasersbee if I were you. He can have them to you in like three days if you live in the US. For only $1, you can't beat that with a stick.

Actually, putting 1,000 of these in parallel will give you 1 Ohm.
