Hmm....the resistance calc says 4.2____?

edit: OOPS 15-15-10 = 4.2 thanks for catching that, I had my parts list written down! BTW if i put a capacitor in it what would you recomend? Its got to be small to fit, and also I see ohm ratings on them and its not a resistor, so how would I choose one? I know it stores power and will help against voltage spikes and what not.

@anselm and drewk302
most resistors (last = golden strip) has 10% tolerance.

Thanks alot guys for all your help I do appreciate it alot. I am a noob but trying to learn. So I am gonna use resistors to get the 4.2 ohms, and a capacitor, 1n4001 diode, a master on /off switch, momentary switch, 7-8volts lith ion, and my 16x red dvd burner diode, and in my brinkman aluminum flashlight. I am waiting for my axiz housing before I can do anything. Oh and I have a heatsink that I will mod to fit my housing.

16x burner diodes are stable at 300mA, from my experience, but no guarantees above that.

I'd suggest sticking to 300mA or below.

A few tips: use different value resistors in parallel to achieve more uncommon resistance values, while increasing the wattage rating. Also, be sure to stick some sort of heatsink on the LM317 chip. That little guy gets HOT, especially on fresh batteries. :p

Thanks for the tips. I am gonna try to but a small heatsink on the lm3117, just gotta find something. I build pc's and have a few old ones, thats how I am making one to fit the housing for the laser. I will have to cut a small piece for the lm3117.

I used a northbridge heatsink and broke off a finger and then cut it to size, works great.

^ so, when the whole thing goes ready, get us some pics.

@JimBolder
I get a finger burn with a LM317 yesterday...
Battery car + 445nm + Unheatsinked transistor + retard try to take him = burns lol.
