Default How to get laser pointer into Australia

Have recently tried to buy a 2w laser Pointer from dragon lasers and it got seized by customs

I know they are illegal here but surly there are some other companies that can get them through customs. The only other place that I can find that will try and send me one and refund me if I don't receive it is luck laser, and I don't really know to much about these guys so not sure if I want to risk it.

Does anyone know much about luck laser and the quality of there lasers or of any other companies that can get lasers into the country or does anyone know of anyone who is in Australia and can build me a custom one?? Or can anyone buy me one in and sell it to me?!?
I've been trying for quite awhile now and have never managed it yet.

Any information would be great.

Thanks guys.

I think the only way to get yourself a high powered laser without having it seized by customs is by building one. Just buy parts from several websites/forum sellers and build it into a whole by yourself.

Greetings, fellow australian!

That sucks. In general, the easiest way to avoid this problem is to have the laser shipped disassembled.

If the empty body and the diode/driver module are shipped in separate packages, you'll generally have no issues getting through customs as it's not illegal to import a laser diode assembly or an empty flashlight body on their own.

I can vouch for Gitle at Bitlasers.com who was happy to split the BitBrew laser kit I ordered into two packages, and they sailed through customs with no issues. Podo, who manages sales of Sanwu lasers in the B/S/T forums here, was also happy to split the diode module and body of the Pocket Series laser I ordered from him into two packages, which also had no issues with customs.

Of course, the easiest way to be sure (as others have mentioned) is to assemble the laser yourself. Make sure the first thing you pick up is a set of safety goggles (I'm partial to the Eagle Pair goggles from Survival Laser, these ones for blue lasers and these ones for red) - the last thing you want is for your awesome shiny new custom laser to knock out your vision, or worse, someone else's.

Good luck!

parts inbound for: nothing at the moment. Probably a 520 soon, and maybe a 9mm 445.
I should really buy/build an LPM... | I have several pairs of properly-approved safety goggles, and so should you! | need MOAR WAVELENGTHS
