How to get laser diode out of metal casing.

Just took about the DVD burner and got the point where what I have left is the Filters and Laser Diode. Any video tutorials I have seen have plastic casing that you can easily cut to get the laser diode out. This one although is thick, solid metal. How am I supposed to get this out now?

Edit: That metal should be very brittle. Grab it on either end with pliers and twist. Careful because the diode will go flying.
