How-2 make Cracked Uranium marbles from noncracked

Thanks to daguin from this thread for the idea


  1. First turn you oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.


  2. Now gather as many marbles as you want to look cracked. You might want to start out with only five or six marbles just to make sure that this process works with your marbles.


  3. Now put them into a small pan that is able to go into the oven. I put mine into a 8x8x2 inch pan.



  4. Once the oven is ready put the pan with the marbles in it into the oven.
  5. Turn the timer on your oven to 7 minutes.
  6. While the marbles are baking find a small bowl and fill it with water.
  7. Place ice cubes into the water. It doesn't matter how many ice cubes you put into the bowl just make sure that the water is really cold.
  8. Note that once the timer has gone off take the HOT marbles out of the pan. Make sure to turn the oven off after you are done.Then immediately put them into the cold water.
  9. Notice that the marbles will crack right before your eyes and should be cool in a matter of seconds.
 10. Take them out of the bowl and dry them off.

i have never owned these marbles, could anybody explain for me what is it for???
and what is the diferences between SMOOTH and CRACKED????

They fluoresce when a blu-ray laser is shined on them. The "cracked" just has the potential for more "interesting" reflections.

They are just another source of pretty light

When my marbles arrived half of them were in pieces rather than cracked :-[ I will say that the ebay seller was very good and sent me replacements.

I am still wondering how to use a small jar full of nice refractive glass :

could anybody explain for me what is it for???
and what is the diferences between SMOOTH and CRACKED????

They are just nice to shine various laser colours through... cracked ones give a much brighter result.

Yes. However, it is an insignificant amount of radiation. You get much worse simply from walkngt around town.

I cracked some of mine by using the electric stove burner set to medium. About 5 minutes and into water !!!

As for radioactivity.... I put the probe, shield open, of my counter into a bag of 75 marbles. They are hardely above background count if at all.

What were you scanning for? Alpha, beta or Gamma? I am willing to bet that if your probe can do alpha and beta you'd see a higher count. As for gamma... not so much.
